Samuel Merritt ABSN Fall 2019

Published

Hi everyone! Just wanted to get the conversation started for those who applied for the ABSN Fall 2019 cohort. I applied for the Sacramento location but would love to connect with all who applied in general! Good luck everyone!

Hello Everyone,

I have applied to ASBN in Sacto Fall. This is my first time applying. I didn't realize they waitlisted people 3 times!! Nervous. Does anyone have plan B?

Hi MissyMig! Congrats on applying and welcome to the group. I’m sure people do have a plan B, I know I do, but my first choice and my first priority is to keep applying and trying for SMU. My reason is that all the other BSN programs are 3 year programs, so by the time I got in and got through, I could have been waitlisted 4 times and still finished SMU in the same amount of time. It’s not that I wouldn't consider it. Maybe I’ll end up applying to those as well, but my preference by far isn’t SMU. I also have considered getting my ADN, and then bridging to a BSN online, but again, it would take forever. So I might apply to one or two other programs while I keep applying to SMU, but this is by far my priority!

How about you? Are you applying to other schools?

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys have your first bachelors degree in? I’m curious to see what fields we all studied or worked in prior to finding nursing as our career path? My degree is in Environmental Design. It’s kind of a mix of architecture, interior design, and environmental studies. It’s focusing on making people’s homes more environmentally friendly and healthier for the residents. I guess the “healthy home” aspect relates to nursing a little, but the architecture and design is pretty far from healthcare! ?

My bachelor's is in psychology. And I have a masters in counseling. I also got through 2/3rds of my PhD prior to moving back to California. I currently work in higher education at the Dean's level. I'm excited to leave the field of higher education while I work in a new field ?

Hey @MamaKat916, my bachelors was in Microbiology (helped take care of that prereq lol), but I've been working in medical research the past 5 years. I love it, but wanted to interact and help patients more directly instead of being behind the scenes. I know that I work well with people and thought nursing is a better fit for my personality instead of going to grad school and getting a PhD! Best of luck to everyone!

My BA was in Psychology and Art. I have a degree in Chinese Medicine also.

Wow! You guys all have such diverse backgrounds and so much of it seems like it will benefit you in the field of nursing. Thanks for sharing! It’s always nice to get to know each other a little better. Now... on to more waiting! ?

Hey everyone. I just received my preliminary review email today. This is my second time applying. I was waitlisted for Spring 2019 for Sac.

I have my BS in Nutrient Metabolism!

I really want to bring a more holistic approach to medicine, ideally, I would be out of a job because everyone is healthy!

The first time I had anatomy, interpersonal communication, and human development in progress.

Science GPA:3.0

Last 60: 3.3ish

Hesi: 92

I retook the HESI and now have 96%. I have a B in the 4 science prerequisites so right now I’m retaking micro and chem, hopefully will end with an A in both to boost that GPA. I’m pretty sure I will have to apply again because my science GPA is not competitive.

My BA is in psychology and anthropology.
