Samuel Merritt ABSN Fall 2019

Published

Hi everyone! Just wanted to get the conversation started for those who applied for the ABSN Fall 2019 cohort. I applied for the Sacramento location but would love to connect with all who applied in general! Good luck everyone!

You too NurseStu! This wait feels like it’s more nerve-wracking the closer we get to the end of the month!

Hi All! Just found this page. Thanks for all of the info. I have applied to SMU Fall 2019 ABSN and this is my first time applying. I am not sure if reading all of this has made me feel better or even more nervous. Currently anxiously waiting for any email updates. I am happy to have found this page to connect to others and get somewhat of a timeline for what to expect!

Future RN, welcome! Glad to have another person to chat with while we all endure this loooooonnnnnng wait!

Anyone else checking their email every 10 minutes?? ? What a strange shared experience this wait is..

I jump whenever my phone makes a sound. So much for being zen about the whole thing. I wonder if we will hear next week? Since Monday is a holiday, I doubt we will hear anything until Tuesday at the very earliest. I wasn't anxious until about a week ago, but now.... ?

Definitely ready for the wait to be over lol

Checking and checking and checking. My guess is that it’ll be sometime after Tuesday of next week. But I wish it were sooner!

CjeanL,

I always get the butterflies when I see several allnurses notifications in a row! But then I realize, it’s three in a row when we’re all just chatting. It’ll be 30 in a row when the actual emails start rolling out! ? But still, I’d rather have SOME type of communication about the program (even if we’re all just commiserating about the wait) than have complete radio silence. The wait is bad enough alone and having some type of chit chat from others who know what I’m feeling is better than waiting it out alone!

Hang in there guys! Grill up some good food, kick back with friends and family, and enjoy the long weekend! We won’t know anything until at least Tuesday! Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone! And if any of you are veterans or have family members who are veterans, thank you for your service and your family’s sacrifice! ❤️

At this point, I feel like I have a nonstop mental loop of Jeopardy music playing in my head. Do notifications come out in the am or all over the clock? If you are initially waitlisted, are those notifications sent out quickly, or does that process also painfully drag out?

So, from what I remember for the last cycle, acceptances were typically sent out by 7 or 8 am. I know I received my waitlist notification at nearly 5:00 on a Friday. I’m pretty sure that’s by design! They most likely don’t want a flood of waitlisted students calling them all day for the whole week! ? (Can’t say a I blame them!)

But after the initial wave of acceptances and waitlist notifications, there were others who had to wait another painful weekend and then got their notification the following Monday or Tuesday. And from those that were on the message board, a high percentage of people who heard late were either admitted or very low on the waitlist. So it’s almost like they gave notice to the “for sure” students and the “try again next time” students, and maybe were still making decisions on the in-betweeners. So if the notifications start rolling in and you happen to be someone who doesn’t hear for days, maybe don’t stress a ton? Maybe it’s a good thing? ?

Lets hope we start seeing some responses soon!! These last few days are going to be brutal!!

Thank you so much for all you input. I'm really grateful for it. I also hope we hear by the end of the week!

Out of curiosity, do you know how the reapplication process works if you are waitlisted? My understanding is that the next Sacramento ABSN application deadline is July 1st. It seems like there may still be a lot of waitlist movement at that point. It seems like a crazy amount if work for everyone to reapply only to possible have withdraw your subsequent application. Also, if you have to reapply, can you use the same references if that likely wasn't the reason or not being accepted? With the semester having just ended, some professors are gone for the summer. Are you able to shed some light on my cluelessness? I admittedly have no idea what happens if I don't get accepted for the fall. Thanks again for sharing you experience. ?

As soon as you have a decision, your application should be available to roll over for the next cycle. If not, you can email or call NursingCAS and have them do it on their end. Everything stays the same except your references. They make you resubmit them again. So be sure you contact them ASAP if you’re waitlisted it ask them to be available for contact during the summer. (One of my professors is in Spain for most of the summer, so I completely understand!) You’ll a have to send transcripts too if you had any in-progress classes. And also, if it’s your first time applying, you may want to make an appointment to see the admissions counselor to have them critique your application. So they may have input on your statements, resume, etc.

It’s a short window, for sure, so don’t wait on anything. Even if I’m waitlisted at #2, I’m going to start on my application. You just never know, and it’d be my luck that it would be the cohort with 100% acceptance and attendance rates! ?

I have heard a rumor on the boards that the people who hold the top #1, #2, and maybe #3 spots get an automatic offer for the following cohort. Which if that's true, yay for them! I would hope it would happen if I were in that position. (But I’d still reapply just to be on the safe side!)

The reapplication process isn’t horrible. You can utilize NursingCAS to transfer almost all of your info to the new application. You’ll have to update some stuff, but it really takes a fraction of the time.

Yes, you’ll have to do the whole process over for letters of rec though :(

BUT! You can start your app now and send out the LOR requests before your profs leave.

Good luck!
