salary..pay range in tampa, fl

U.S.A. Florida

Hi, I was looking into moving to Tampa after I get out of school in May. I was wondering what the typical pay rate for a nurse is in Tampa. If anyone can help me out with average pay rates in hospitals as related to working somewhere like a doctors office or your personal recommendations of where to look for jobs. Thanks!!!

As a Florida Realtor, who is going back to school to make the switch to nursing ( something I have always wanted to do ) I can not speak about wages, but I CAN talk about the housing market !

If you are willing to drive 45 minutes, you can buy a 3/2 house with an inground pool in Pasco county for under 120K. I know people constantly b*tch about the insurance, but break it down :

Taxes would be about 1,200,

insurance 1,200

and NO big heating bills ! My parents in upstate NY live in a 125k house and pay 4,500 in taxes alone and another 400 bucks a month in heating costs 6 months a year.

The wages in florida are HORRIBLE across the board ! They offer 8-10 dollars for experienced hvac, welders, and truck drivers, so anything in the 20's is MUCH better and it is cheaper to live than in NY. Especially the downstate area.

Sorry this is not more about nursing, but i thought i would make my first post about something I actually KNOW something about !

Good luck !

Thanks for that. I want to know more about the housing because I refuse to buy one in NY where we will have to shovel snow. My cousin in Tampa suggested getting a new home but those are way more expensive. What do you think? My husband does construction but was willing to swith to trucking. Your thought?

Hello everyone I just started school here in tampa (Erwin Tech)and we just went over all this jargon and tampa General is no longer taken LPN's because of thier new " Magnet" status and a lot of hospital are headed that way. The VA hospital pay well from what i am told and everyone has a Night diff. Pay so that's always a plus. Thanks all and good luck!:w00t:

Thanks so much for your response. I'm just so tired of NY but will have to wait until I finish school to move. I'm not too sure how do you get your OWN benefits though. Would I contact a private insurance company and add the family on? Would you suggest travel nurse for someone trying to make their way down there for the first time?

I moved from NY to Tampa and it is so hot here!!! OMG- I am LEAVING FL the frst chance I get when I get out of school. It is a great place to vacation, but it SUX to live here--sorry to tell you that:(

People from NY, especially the city, have quite a hard time in FL with the weather, the slow pace and other things, from what I've noticed the 15 years of living here.

Any advice about trauma nursing? That is what I want to do when I graduate.

I just want to say if you are looking in the Fl area, it's a great time. I live in VT and am moving back this summer after 7 long, cold years up here. Housing is dropping fast. The real estate market is crushing hard. I have found nice big places at good prices. Since the one thing I love about VT is the small town, I am looking in Citrus county, which is just above Tampa about 1 hour. And things are not moving so sellers are dropping prices and there are a ton of bank repos down there.

I am a LPN and I make $20.00 base pay but because I work baylor, it's $ 26. But my living expense are quite high up here.

I figue that I can work and live comfortable in FL with my 4 kids on my income alone.

I found a nursing home/rehab center in Tampa starting new LPNs day shift at $21.

Hey,

I'm new to this forum, and here goes my second post...about real estate again ! Sorry mods, tell me if I'm off base here, I just am learning what I can about the nursing profession while trying to share what little i DO know.

Citrus county is GREAT if you like the small town feel. I lived there for a few years and still have dear friends there. your money will go a LONG way compared to the north east.

Only caveat, is not minding the drive. In truth, from crystal river ( the center of citrus county) it's at least and hour and a half to the airport on the highway ( suncoast) and once you get into tampa traffic, it will get longer. I am not trying to discourage you as I loved it there and DO have friends who make the drive daily, I am just not one for that long a commute. Hudson in pasco county is still pretty rural but will cut your driving time in half.

good luck to you and enjoy the manatees when you get there !

Im a graduate nurse and wanted to add St Joseph's to the list. They quoted me 21.75 per hour and .50 more when I get my license. Their career ladder is a 5% increase from level 1-2 and another 5% from level 2-3. You get 1% for certain certifications and an annual raise based on performance evaluations from 1-6%. Tuition reimbursement 100% of up to $3000 a year. They give $500 for the NCLEX, or u can use it for whatever you want. They do matching with 401k and I think they match .50 on evern $1 up to 6% of your salary.

Im glad someone posted the info above because its nice to compare salaries. Tampa General seems more attractive bc 1 the pay is better, and 2 its a teaching hospiital. I talked to the recruiter there today and she forwarded my application to the manager in charge of the GN internships. I hope to get an interview there very soon so I can compare the offer to St Josephs.

My mother has been a nurse for over 15 years and she has said that St. Joe's has been the BEST hospital she has ever worked for. The way they are with their employees and they actually CARE abuot their employees there. Just some food for thought.:)

Thanks for letting me know that...I accepted the offer so its good to know I made a good decision.

I would caution you against Citrus County!!! It is an 80 mile one way trip! It is closer to a 2 hour drive to the center of Downtown Tampa, when you factor in traffic. A lot has changed in the last 7 years, and a ton of people now live all up and down the Veteran's, which makes for a nasty commute in the morning. Though, I guess it depends on where you are looking to work. I know that they just opened a new hospital in Brooksville, which is up in that area.

Hey, I work at St. Joe's as well as a PCT. When you say you are a graduate nurse do you mean you graduated from an RN program and just have not taken the NCLEX yet? Fill me in. Hazey
