Hi ,
I'm new to the board and am just lookin for some info about Saint Vincent's School of Nursing in Staten Island .... I heard it a really good program and just wanted some imput about it before i spoke to the school
Thanks :thankya:
I am also doing a career change, and I am pretty much rounding out the schools I want to attend mainly staying from Cuny school I want a more personable experience. I was looking into SV School of nursing, but I wasnt really able to get any info, and the website is very generic I attempted an email and was referred back to the website, and when I called (on several occasions) I didnt get a answer or a message returned. How was you able to get in contact with them?
I just really called and they answered all my questions.. I guess its whoever you get on the phone? but I graduated 20 yrs ago from college so none of my classes transfer but SVSN didnt need any prerequiste classes for some reason.. I think b/c you take it when you are in that school.. I would love to go to a CUNY school b/c its thousands cheaper but I need to do this carrer change asap and taking the prerequiste courses does not guarantee me to get into the school. What r u planning?? I dont know if I will even get in.
but I am hoping.
now that the st vincent school of nursing has been changed to, st pauls school of nursing......i've been wondering what entrance test does the school omitt....the pax or the net. also many people ask question in which varies due to personality......refrain from asking interview questions....since the questions will pertain to the individual. worry not about anything but to get into the school....from that point on. all it takes to make it through is commitment, and dedication. please tell me which entrance exam i need to study for in pertaining to st pauls school of nursing....formally st vincents
Native Staten Islander, born at St. Vinny's and worked there both as an NA and did my Nursing 101 clinic rotation there as well, though was attending CSI (when it was still off the SI Expressway on Todt Hill). Chose SV because it was near my house! The old STV program was a true hospital diploma program and was one of the best there was. Lots of hands on experience as with all diploma programs, and one felt upon graduaton nothing really had changed except you went from a student uniform to whites. Back in those days St Vinny's girls took their A&P and other college courses at The College of Staten Island. Certain sections of A&P, Bact, and so forth were blocked off for StV students and only they were allowed to register.Bayley Seton was once the USPH (United States Public Health Hospital) , another place I worked, and when St. Vincents purchased the site, the school was moved there from the previous location in West Brighton.Having attended CSI, and had girlfriends who went to StV, can tell you at least then while the programs were similar, StV's girls got more clinical time, which was natural considering their diploma routes. Back then in terms of board passing rates, IIRC CSI and STV were about equal, with Wagner College below both.Check Google Group archives as some former students of STV's did have some gripes, mainly about the program and equipment being out of date. Not sure how things have changed since the take over by Jersey City Medical. By the way the new buyers could not purchase the school of nursing because NYS law requires only those with previous experience in running an educational facility are allowed to purchase schools. While there was also a St V's school in Manhattan (located in the Village), the programs were not affliated far as one knows. That is you could not apply to one and go to the other, nor switch. Rather than devleop a new ADN program, ST V's in Manhattan closed their diploma school and moved everything to the College of Mount St. Vincent. Soon the old St.Vincent hospital in NYC will be gone, as there are plans to build a new building across the street.Just as an aside, always thought St. V's girls had the greatest student uniforms, and their cap was so unique. Girls from both schools would march in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in full uniform which then included a cape.Best of luck!
Hi, I'm currently a student at SVMC and can say that they program is really good, a little tough, but so far I've had a great experience. If you have any ques, I'd be more than happy to answer them!

Hello Nick, i'm Jamie, how are you?
i have a couple of questions if you dont mind answering of course. I'm wondering which of the school did you decide to go into? and why? if it was the st. vinny's can you please give me some insight, bc from what im reading, many people enjoy the st vinnys as well as CSI but i would love personal opinion. what are you doing now? are you still going to school? any info that you have on st vinnys would be appreiciated. thank you so much nick!
Can someone who took the NET exam tell me how it was? Is it difficult? Did you have enough time to complete the exam??
I tried to write back to you but i guess because i dont have 15 post yet i cant reply....:angryfire stupid rule but whatever. The test isn a PITA. I took it twice. the first time i had a few net review books from barnes and noble (kaplan and barrans review) both a waste of time. its way more info than you need. get the Net review book from Clove Lake book store, its cheaper. if you want ill give you mmy book. The book only gives you the info you need to know. Ill PM you the answer to your question once i hit 15 posts.... only 5 more go i guess lol
