Saint Vincent School of Nursing In Staten Island

I went to College of Staten Island Nursing program and graduated in January of 2008. The program is tough, but better and less expensive than former St. Vincent's, which is now RUMCSI. Over 90 % of CSI nursing students pass the NCLEX the first time and so did I. Good Luck!!

CSI has a great nursing program and St. Vincent's does too.

I heard a lot of good things about their nursing programs, but I think that one of the difference makers is the tuition. CSI's tuition is affordable whereas at St. Vincent's, it is quite expensive. However, St. Vincent's tuition is not as high if you compare it to other private schools.

I heard that CSI's nursing program prepares you well for the Boards and St. Vincent's trains you well for the real world. The passing grade is a C+ at CSI and at St. Vincent's, it is a B. At St. Vincent's, it is like a family :bow:

Hi,

I also have a BA like most of you guys however, I have a BA in Political Science. I am planning to apply to St. Vincent School School of Nursing (Queens) for Jan 09 term. I was wondering if after you have completed the 2years w/ them and become a RN do they help you find a job.? Also, I currently, work at a hospital but they really don't accept ADN but BSN nurses; do NYC hospitals accept ADN nurses?

Any school will help you find a job as much as they can. But if you're asking whether there is job placement, the answer is no. They are not affiliated with any institutions that guarantee jobs.

As far as ADN vs. BSN, the trend keeps shifting, depending on supply and demand of nurses. It is sstill possible to find a job as a new grad with an ADN in NYC, but it is not as easy as it was a couple of years ago. At one point it was very difficult (when there was no shortage, employers could be very selective). There is no way to know what the trend will be in 2.5 yrs from now.

hey I just read your post, I called the admission office at st vincent in to ask the passing grade in the school. they are very limited about requirements.. since you went there can you tell me what the passing grade is... the lady over the phone said the professors are looking for a B, or nothing less than a 75 .. thats two different requirement statements.... what other classes did you take along with the nursing courses. can you tell me what the required classes were to graduate like the electives and stuff...

I am currently attending the St. Vincent's SON. I am not going to offer my personal opinion because they were bought by another company, so things are going to change (and in some ways they have already started to change).
The clinical experience is good there because they have many different areas that the students do their rotations on.
Also, Bayley Seton Hospital (which is a beautiful campus) was purchased and it is going to be turning into an active living center for senior citizens, so the site of the SOn is going to be changing (I think I heard to South Avenue, but don't hold me to it).

hi can you tell me there passing grade.. and the required electives in the college. i am intending to get in jan 2009, they are very limited and dont give off information.....

Passing grade is a B. I think that it will be better if you call the school and ask them to send you the whole packet for more information.

Passing while you are in the school is 80. With your pre-reqs you cannot transfer anything less than a C.

Along with the nursing courses if you haven't taken some general educations courses before-hand, then you will take them while enrolled. They may have changed, but what I had to take is:

Psychology

English Composition

Microbiology

Anatomy 1 & 2

English Literature

Ethics

Sociology

All of the classes are offered at the school except Microbiology. That you have to take at St. Francis.

I attended st. vincents when the classes were held in st. michaels church. Sounds like alot has changed. I can tell you this: the best education and hands on experience I could have had. The instructors were fabulous and Sister Mary Martin was our director. We were also a diploma program at that time.... Best wishes to all who look to attend.:redbeathe

I agree! All of the instructors during my experience have been excellent.

They also decided to stay at the current campus. They are expanding to another floor of Bayley Seton.

I graduated from the St. Vincents Staten Island Nursing school in June of 2005. I had the best clinical experience there, 2 days a week, which is more than most nursing schools. I started out in the College of Staten Island's program and I actually failed the first class by one point. If you fail, you are out of their program and you have to reapply. I reapplied, and did not get back in until 6 months later, and I was also accepted at St. Vincent. I'm glad I decided to go with St. vincents program b/c I liked it much better. The classes are smaller and more personal. The teachers know you by first name, and the teachers will have lunch with you, stay late, and do whatever it takes to help you if you need help. I strongly recommend their program. I am working in the best hospital in NY because I had one of the best training programs. Good Luck!

Hi, I am waiting to get in January 2009. i have to take the net exam this september 19th. i know all the cuny schools are competitive, what about this school? is it hard to get in to this one as well?

i have the cirrculum and the credits are heavy. do they break down the courses in halves for example half semester of med surge 1 and half a semester of fundamentals, during a semester....

please tell me more about this school when you were there. I will wait for you response. the school its self is not ready to give me any information until i score good on the net exam go on the interview, orientation and so on. they are very private about all this and i dont want any surprises.
