U.S.A. New York

Hi ,

I'm new to the board and am just lookin for some info about Saint Vincent's School of Nursing in Staten Island .... I heard it a really good program and just wanted some imput about it before i spoke to the school

Thanks :thankya:

I agree, I also wasted my time with a lot more material from a Kaplan study guide, get the one they recommend from Clove Lakes book store. The hardest math on the test is multiplying decimals and fractions, no word problems, it wasn't bad. The reading comprehension I found tricky because they give you VERY little time, you need to read the problems then go back and notice that the questions, for the most part, go paragraph by paragraph. So read the first paragraph...answer the first question...read the second paragraph...answer the second question, that really helped me. I read like lightning and still didn't have enough time to answer the last two questions, I just had to guess. And, I still got in for the evening program, Spring 2010. I wonder if the evening program is easier to get into than the day because less people want to do it, I'm not sure.

Either way, good luck!!!

hey i'm accepted too! but i chose the daytime program..good luck to you! do u have orientation tomorrow also? =)

"Clove Lakes Book Store", now that takes me back! *LOL*When I went to the nursing program at the College of Staten Island, that is where we went for the arm patches to be sewn on our uniforms. This was before CSI moved to the Willowbrook campus, and was right up the street where Petrides school is now. We got our text books from the campus bookstore though.Saw in the Staten Island Advance that your nursing school has moved to South Avenue, and is in the same building that Richmond County Medical Center (former St. Vincent's of SI), is going to have a new annex. Isn't that kind of out of the way?

It actually works out for me, I live in New Dorp so it's pretty much equal distance traveling to classes on South Ave as it is driving for clinicals at Richmand Univ.

To answer the previous question, no I do not have orientation yet. The evening program is starting later than the day program, so our orientation with be closer to the end of January. I'm such a morning person, I hope I do ok in an evening program. Falling asleep during exams would probably be very bad, huh?!

I hope more Spring semester 2010 STATEN ISLAND students join SPSON 2010 on Facebook!

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if someone could give me a bit of advice. I am applying to St. Paul's Nursing School for the Fall 2010 semester. What worries me is that I currently have a 2.49 gpa. When I call for an admissions counselor and ask if I stand a chance with that gpa, they simply tell me I have to come in for an interview and see the school. What does that mean? Do I still have a chance if I perform well on the NET exam and impress them on my interview. I'm really nervous, any advice? Should I even try with that gpa?

I could be wrong, but it seems like they have more seats open than ever, now with their bigger location. I would try to wow them on the NET and at the interview. The NET is there to show them if you will be able to handle the material. If they even bring up your high school gpa, be prepared to explain why it is low.

Okay, thank you for your help. I bought the NET review book already, hopefully all goes well

An old school flash back for you current St. Paul's students.

Though not *that* old, did work at the former St. Vincents hospital on Staten Island in my day, thus remember the nun's habit and the St. Vinny's nurse's cap. Though the student nurse uniform changed by then.
