Saint Louis Community College Wait List

Published

Hello,

My name is Les. I began my college career as a biology student... I decided about a year ago that I wanted to be nurse... I enrolled at SIUE as a prenursing student. At first it was really important to me that I get a BSN , but now I'm thinking of getting an ADN because of I have two small children. I can't afford to be in school forever. I want to go to Forest Park.. I already know quite a bit about the Nursing program there.( I went to school there for a semester), but I wanted to know how long the wait list is .. I've heard conflicting information. I've that the wait can be anywhere from 3 years to 6 months. Can anyone in the program(at any campus) tell me how long they waited???

When you are taking your pre-nursing classes do you have to wait until you finish those classes before you can apply for nursing classes????????????? Or is it at a certain point where you can apply while you are taking your pre-nursing classes???????:confused::confused::confused:

You must have a minimum of Bio111 and Chem101 before you can apply. The rest of your prereqs/coreqs can be taken while you are waiting. I would try to time it so you get EVERYTHING out of the way with the exception of the core nursing courses before you start nursing school there. This means all the English, history, A&P, psych, etc.

You also have to take a pass a dosage calculations test with a minimum passing score.

Lots of info here: STLCC Nursing Program Requirements

Good luck!!! :yeah:

Forest Park has 48 spots per semester.

Thank you!

Yes, I guess you saw the post above about Bio and Chem being prereqs - you can't put that application in until you have those courses. I've also taken A&P, MicroBiology, Gen Psych and Human Growth & Development, all of which must be taken either during the nursing program or before. I'm glad to have them out of the way so I will have more time for the core nursing courses, and a part-time job too.

Good luck!

I put my name on the the Meramec and Forest Park waiting lists at the end of spring 08 semester. I am 154 at forest park and 151 at Meramec. They say be glad if you get in in 2 semester but it generally is 3 semester. Bummer I know:bugeyes:

Does anyone know the current wait time for any of the stlcc Campuses? I am trying to decide if i should go there or Luteran School of nursing. Thank you Also anyone have any preferences?

I just submitted my application to all 3 STLCC schools and so far I am #144 on the Florissant Valley waiting list and #343 on the Forest Park waiting list.I'm still waiting to hear from Meramec. Everyone I have talked to said the list at all 3 schools is 2 years from when you apply, I'm hoping it is shorter!

Just wanted to add that I got my letter from the Meramec campus and I'm #304 on that list.

I just received my acceptance letter for FP abotu 2 weeks ago. I put my name on the list at FP and Meremac in mid July of 2009. When I started I was number 221 at forest park and number 197 at Meremac. For some reason it went quicker at FP but I did have to wait 3 semesters. For the people who are 300+ on the list I hate to say it but i think you are looking at more than a 3 semester wait. Who knows though, I know I will be giving up my spot for fall of 2010 at meremac though so maybe a lot of people will be doing that. I know there is a shorter wait time at teh BSN programs but they are a lot more expensive so it just depends on the price range you are able to swing.

I got on the wait list in mid August of 2010. I put my name in for all 3 schools. I was 120 something for Flo Valley, 260 something for Meramec and 307 for Forest Park. I haven't received another letter yet. I'm hoping and praying this goes by quick! Originally I had planned to go to UMSL for a SECOND bachelors degree (I have a business degree from there) but tuition went WAY up. So I ended up getting all of the prerequisites done and even my CPR certification. Should've taken Chemistry first and gotten on the list from what I'm learning! I'm just glad I can pay for the community college in cash and not take out MORE loans. I know everyone says get a BSN but I really don't need the debt and I have a Business degree already. Everyone takes the same test when it's all said and done so I figure this is the better choice for me, even with the wait.

I agree - I have an accounting degree from UMSL, and I want to get a BSN, but I would rather pay $83 per credit hour, than the $300-$500 per credit hour at the 4-year schools. Plus you can get a BSN in a year, after you get the RN - and maybe get tuition reimbursement for the BSN (if you land a decent job after graduation) instead of coming out of the pocket for that as well. I got on the wait list in July 2010, and I'm in the early 200s/late 100s now. All my prerequisites are done and I'm CPR certified. I have a 3.8 gpa but I am stuck playing the waiting game. I wish they would just hire more nursing teachers. That would be the logical thing to do. More nursing teachers would boost the economy and get more nursing students through the program - which is especially important due to the aging population. But what do I know...

I am in my first semester of nursing school at FP and I LOVE it! It is so much better than some of the other community college programs. They are very helpful and so far its been hectic but worth it! I know it seems like you have so long to wait but in my program I heard a girl say she was an alternate number 36. Which means that almost everyone who originally got an acceptance letter did not go into the program. There were about 46 peopel who got an acceptance letter and then about 40 people told they were alternates . So we almost went through all the alternates. I would assume you will move up almost 90 people on your next letter then. I don't knowabout meremac or FV but FP it definately worth the wait!

I'm glad you like the program, I'm hoping to get in at FP Spring 2012. I went from 343 when I got on the list last October to 238 now, so it seems to be going by fast.
