Saint Joseph College Brooklyn Spring 2018

Published

Good Morning everyone,

I am so excited that I finally got into Nursing school. I got an email this morning from SJC advising me that I got accepted to the nursing program for spring semester. I originally applied for Fall'18 because I was told by the admissions that they only accept Fall admission. But low and behold a few weeks later I got an email from them stating that a few spots opened up and if I would like my application put in for Spring '18. That was a no brainer, so I dutifully accepted and the wait almost killed me lol. Finally got an email this morning and I began screaming. Finally guys, it's been a long grueling journey that I thought would never end. I have all As and a couple of Bs in my prerequisites but my overall GPA is 2.9 which is pretty low and I had almost given up on getting into any program. I also got accepted into a weekend program in Dominican College but the transportation was a little to much to go upstate and I had a few more prerequisites that they needed me to complete. Please if anyone got accepted or is an alumni I would love to hear your thoughts on the program and any feedback is appreciated. Thank you.

@Nsadia congratulations on taking the steps to the beginning of a beautiful career. The program and the clinical are really good. I go to school twice per week and clinics twice per week. My advise to you is to apply no matter your grades or gpa. Your grades are pretty great btw. As far as needing more classes, registrar will be able to tell you exactly what you may need to take. No, there are no admission exam like teas/pax. In terms of tuition, it is a private school so it's a little expensive (around $14,000) but not as expensive compared to LIU, NYU or even Molloy. At the end, it would be worth it.

Hope this helps. Sorry for the late reply, as I mentioned to other members I don't receive notifications to my email anymore. hope they fix this soon.

@hey Sweeteish, your advices for future students are very helpful. I deeply appreciated. I was desperately trying to search info. for the program at SJC, but I can’t find so much about it. I guess they just opened up their nursing program. If you could give me some advices, that would be great!

I also applied for SJC Brooklyn last week March 24 for the 2019 fall admission as a sophomore. I’m worried if I’m too late for applying since seats fill up quickly.I’m really interested in this school because it’s easy to commute. I’m all done with my science courses in CUNY school.( all A and some A-)

My question is If I am admitted to attend this college, I will need to take all the additional prerequisite courses they require which could make me start nursing courses in spring 2020.

I was wondering if they offer nursing classes for both fall and spring, or some classes are just offered only on fall or spring? Because that would mean waiting for another year. Thanks for any reply!

@Wilson Dong Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, seats do fill quickly, however it does not mean that you may not get a seat. If time passes and you haven't gotten a response either send a follow up email or call. In terms of prerequisites, registrar will go over all the classes you need, if it's not a lot of classes you can do it over the summer if offered. The program itself starts in the Fall and certain classes are offered only Fall or Spring. The good thing is once you're accepted you'll be able to see where you stand in terms of classes and be able to plan and move forward.

Thanks for your reply. I just called today. Admission said they take about 40-50 students annually depending on how many students are getting out in the spring semester. So basically, I will need to wait until the summer to hear from them. I’ll try to apply to other schools in case there’s no more spot.

hey @sweetkeish you lucky you have school twice a week. how is clinicals going so far? you doing med/surg . I'm on campus four times a week. I wont start my way of being class until spring next year basically I start all my nursing classes fall of next year. I'm class of 2022

@louismimi thank you for asking, clinically are going great. I have Peds and Med/surg clinical this semester. it's a little challenging but in a good way. I'm learning a great deal. The time flew by so quickly it's amazing. You will enjoy your journey and when looking back realize how much you have grown. Not every moment will be a ray of sunshine. Somedays you may feel drained or question your sanity but always remember the end is worth every bit of sleepless nights and anxiety. Once you prioritize, stay focus and stick to your schedule you'll be great. Good luck, you got this!!!

@Wilson Dong Definitely apply to other schools and keep your options open. Also try Molloy, Adelphi, St. Pauls ect. I've heard that school in NJ are pretty great as well if you're willing to travel.

Hey @sweetkeish I needed to ask you how many students are in your clinicals, usually schools have between 8 to 10 students in clinicals .

@louismimi In my group there's 6 of us. The groups are usually small 6-8 depending.

@sweetkeish that's good the instructor get to focus more on what students are doing They should make the nursing lab 6 to 8 students also.

Hi @sweetkeish so this is the school I’m reallllly hoping I get into (partially because I spoke to admissions yesterday and I had a 45 minute phone call with them and the person was giving me info without me having to ask which was amazing lol) if I can get an overall opinion on the program and all that would be amazing!! I’m hoping to transfer and I live on Long Island so I thought it might be a great way to get into city hospitals and possibly Long Island hospitals

I also liked how it felt like they were wanting me to get into their school so I’d love to know the atmosphere of it as well
