Rutgers Accelerated Program - Testing out of certain prerequisites

U.S.A. New Jersey

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone that was accepted or is currently attending Rutgers' accelerated BSN program had to challenge any courses before starting the program? I have to take exams for the following courses - human interactive process and cultural dimensions of humans and their environment. I was wondering if anyone out there could say if they had to take these exams and if so, are they really difficult or do-able provided one puts in a solid couple weeks of studying...

If anyone could help me with this, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm not looking for specifics on the exams themselves, just trying to gauge if I have enough time to study at this point - I have unitl the middle of may to take the tests.

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Hi,

I was accepted into the accelerated nursing program this year. Unfortunately, there was horrible miscommunication and I wasn't aware of the orientation that occurred on April 15. Can anyone fill me in on what happened? When do clinicals begin? Do we have do get all that , cpr certification, health clearance and background checks before classes begin on May 26? Also, I have to take the challenge exams for cultural dimensions and human interactive processes. Does anyone know what happens if you fail the exam? How much does the accelerated program cost? Did you guys get a package from the financial aid office because I called them and they won't give me a package until after I've registered for classes. If you can think of anything else that is crucial for me to know, please fill me in. I sooo appreciate it!

Thanks!

Hi Purrrsianz,

You will have to contact Mr. Bruce Howard: [email protected] the administrative assitand/Office of student affairs to register for calsses ASAP. You also need to contact Mr. Howard to get a rutgers email account (ID and password). To sign up for the challenge exams you need to conact Lou at: [email protected] . You will want to take the exams before you start the program. Lou will send you the syllabus which has the name of the book you need to read and the chapters. You may need to take the day off to go to the Rutgers campus to square all this stuff off. It took me the day and I had to go back and get Dr. Esteves signatures for taking the challenge exams on another day. On May 26 the uniform people will come in to do fittings and orders. You should have already started on getting your insurance, criminal check and immunizations started. You should go to http://nursing.rutgers.edu and click on incoming student. This should list all the requirements you need before you start the program in May. Don't stress. As long as you contact the people above they should get you on your way to getting ready for May. P.S. I have not received my financial aid information yet either but I did receiv a bill.

See you in May!:yeah:

Thanks Sunny. That was very helpful info. See you in May! :)

Hi Sunnyj1,

I also received the bill from Rutgers. I called last friday to find out my financial aid information. My application is still in pending, it needed to be evaluated from an financial aid advisor. The clerk advised me to call back in a week or so to find out the status. The tuition deadline is May 15. Please let me know if you have heard anything from the financial office. Thanks.

LoriNJ could I possibly get the those syllabi?

thats fine, I appreciate it:)

Has anyone taken the challenge exams yet (Human Interactive Processes or Cultural Dimensions)?

Hi Purrsianz,

I just took the Challenge exam for Human Interactive Process. There are 100 multiple choice questions and the exam is based on reading the textbook. It was very doable. Just read the book and review a little and you should do fine. I have to take the Cultural Dimensions later this week. Back to studying.

Thanks sunny. How did you manage with the audio recording? I'm not sure on how to approach it. And were the questions on the exam very specific?

Hi, I hope it's okay to just join in. This is my first time... I too have to test out of certain prereqs and just wondering if someone might have a better grasp of the syllabus for Cultural Dimensions... I have the books; however there are assigned readings on the syllabus that don't seem to be connected with the books. Are these journal articles that I need to find and read? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

hi MALZ,

For Cultural Dimensions you only have to read the chapters and pages in the 2 required textbooks. Dr. Esteves said only read the textbooks not the journals and you should pass.

Hi Purrisianz,

The recording for Human Interactive Communications should be approached on a basic general health assessment. You only need to ask the person questions relating to how they keep healthy. Should be 20 min taped conversation and transcribe 10 min. Dr. Esteves said we can hand it in once we know we have passed the written portion of this challenge exam. All of this was stated during registration/orientation. The questions on the exam are all based on conversations between the client and the nurse. You should know theorists: Frued, Erik Erikson and Peplau. Good Luck!
