Rutgers ABSN FALL 2016

Published

Hey everyone,

I just attended the Rutgers ABSN information session this past Monday. It seems there were a couple of people applying for this upcoming fall (2016), including myself, and it was suggested that we connect! I'm applying to both campuses but hope to get into Newark at the very least since its a closer commute for me. I'm just starting the NursingCas application.

Who else is applying for this upcoming fall?

Hello everyone!

I just read through each of these comments, I'm happy I found this thread - it's been very helpful and has answered many of the questions I've had regarding the program. I'm also relieved to know I'm not the only one feeling anxious and nervous about waiting to hear back! I applied to the Rutgers ABSN Program for the fall of 2016 at the Newark campus. Now that I have an idea of when we'll hopefully be hearing back regarding our decisions, does anyone know how we are notified (email, NursingCAS profile, mail)? Also, on my application through NursingCAS, when I go to "Check Status" it shows that my transcripts, evaluations, and programs have all been verified. I'm assuming that means everything is complete? If someone could get back to me regarding these questions I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks!

Hi @becaputo - welcome! If everything is verified, you're all set! I'm not sure how we'll receive decisions for sure, but based on prior cohorts, it seems like they'll come by good ol' snail mail. :)

Great, thank you! So hopefully in the next month or so we'll have an answer :nailbiting:

0I've applied and been accepted to the accelerated bs nursing program at Rutgers in camden for fall 2016! Although I'm thrilled I've been accepted, I've been given the deadline of Friday 6/17 to accept or deny and I only found out yesterday (a big decision to have 4 days to decided haha) I've also applied to Drexel ace for spring 2017, holy family Accelerated BSN for spring 2017, and the university of Delaware for fall 2016. Unfortunately I am still waiting to hear from the other 3. I don't have a favorite, however being a NJ resident, Rutgers would be the most cost friendly. However, I do not want to sacrifice better job placement if Rutgers is not as reputable as the other programs. I was just wondering if anyone has any advice/ comments on the Rutgers program (or any of them) which would help make this decision a little less stressful! Thank you!!

@alyssaparadiso - first of all, congrats to you!! I'll admit I don't know a ton about the other programs, but I do know that Rutgers is considered an excellent program. I know 2 people who have graduated from the program and 1 who is currently enrolled, and all have great things to say. The biggest complaint I see, mostly on this forum, is disorganization and last minute changes, but to be fair, I don't know that other programs are perfect on that front either.

I have a number of friends who went to other schools who told me to jump at the opportunity to do the Rutgers program, as they've seen it's highly regarded by employers. I believe both of my friends who graduated had jobs lined up prior to graduation (contingent on them passing the NCLEX, of course); you really can't ask for more than that.

I hope that's helpful to you! I would hope that the Camden experience is similar to New Brunswick and Newark (those are the campuses my friends attended). Best of luck to you in making your decision!! :)

@alyssaparadiso

Congrats on your acceptance!! Do you mind sharing your admission stats? Thanks, and good luck!

Does anyone know what the class size is? Do you think some people will withdraw their applications after finding out they no longer offer the part time

program?

When i went to information session a few months ago I was told about 30 people for new brunswick and about 60 for Newark

Hi everyone,

I've applied for the Fall 2016 program in Newark, so in the waiting game, too - good luck to everyone! Was wondering if there are any current ABSN students with kids who might be willing to share their experiences? I'm married with 3 kids (7 yrs old to 13) & feeling anxious about the impact to my family. I know it's a lot of work, I need help with the kids, etc., but I'd really love an honest perspective (eg, will I be kissing my family goodbye for 16 mos??). Thanks in advance!!

Hi all! So glad to have found this thread. I too am anxiously awaiting a reply from rutgers. And have already been accepted to another program with an upcoming deadline. The wait is very long, but I hope it's worth it!

Hi @Timeforfun - I've seen some information re: your question on some of the threads for previous cohorts (maybe check out Spring 2016, or Fall 2015). From what I've gathered, while there are some additional challenges for parents, there are at least a few in every cohort who seem to have done well! I unfortunately think we're all going to be sacrificing family time in order to prioritize school (I'm trying to get my husband prepared in case I get accepted lol). With that said, it seems like balance can be achieved once we get familiar with the program. Apparently the first block is insane and everyone is overwhelmed, but after that, people seem to find their groove. :)

That's exactly what they said at the seminar @dantin28
