Hey everyone,
I just attended the Rutgers ABSN information session this past Monday. It seems there were a couple of people applying for this upcoming fall (2016), including myself, and it was suggested that we connect! I'm applying to both campuses but hope to get into Newark at the very least since its a closer commute for me. I'm just starting the NursingCas application.
Who else is applying for this upcoming fall?
Tell us what you think of Rutgers University.
I actually e-mailed Admissions last week to explain the situation and ask if I could send them a copy (electronic) to hold them over in the meantime (because I was so worried it wouldn't happen in time), and they said unfortunately the official transcripts have to be uploaded for an application to be reviewed.
It's weird that they would say that. I was worried that my transcripts wouldn't reflect any of my new grades, so I asked Rutgers if I could just have my new transcripts mailed to them. The representative said "Sure!" The only issue was later when they called me asking to send my transcript again o_0 but they found it after I told them I mail it to them months ago.
Wow, you're definitely the only person I've heard who has had luck with being able to send transcripts directly to Rutgers! Since it's formalized through NursingCAS, both sides (NursingCAS & Rutgers) have been pretty clear that if NursingCAS doesn't get transcripts before the deadline, it's an issue.
Of course, as with a lot of things, it seems like it depends on who you get on the phone. Good luck! :)
Hi everyone! I've submitted my application to Rutgers' ABSN program and it says the application is "received" but "awaiting materials." Is anyone else having this problem? The only thing that has not been submitted is one my letters of recommendations, but the FAQ page on NursingCAS says not to hold off submitting the application for a letter of recommendation. I'm worried that, since the application is not in the "verifying" stage, it is not considered completely submitted by the deadline. Thanks in advance if anyone has any information for me, and good luck to everyone who applied!
Hi! Good questions.
For Kellymartin8, so it is definitely a balancing act and it definitely takes time to find your balance. It's not easy. I don't know anyone really in Level 1 that would say they had a good balance that first semester. But, as time goes on you figure out how to handle it all. And you become okay with not getting straight As if it means you get to have a life as well. The pressure is definitely on to do well, but there is plenty of help for you at the school and all of you classmates are there to support you! Basically, don't panic because it gets better.
For klouis001, they tell us that it is unadvisable to work during this program, and its certainly for good reason. You will learn (if you haven't already) that Rutgers is very last minute and the students are often the last ones to get word about anything. This can make it difficult to have a job that requires a lot of you (definitely no room for a full time job) as your schedule is often in flux. That being said, I know plenty of people who work part time during the program, myself included!! I work as a substitute teacher so my hours are extremely flexible, and its worked out great for me. Many of my classmates have jobs as nursing assistants or PCTs or whatever you want to call them, which is awesome. And again, it's a balancing act. You may not figure it out as a Level 1, but you will!
There is plenty of time to have friends and play with your kids (if you are a parent-- I am not, and I can't imagine being a parent through this, but many of my classmates are mommies and daddies) and go to work and go to the gym and do whatever it is you love. In fact, I URGE you to continue doing those things. This program has a way of taking a toll on you. I've done my best when I've allowed myself that time to myself. It's so important.
Hi @lte16; thanks so much for taking time to answer some of our questions! And congrats on your success! I have a few questions for you...
1) Did you find that students formed study groups to battle through everything together, or did people tend to go their own way with studying? I'm hoping for more of the former.
2) If you started in the fall, do you recall when your class received decisions? Last year's fall cohort didn't seem to find out until mid-July. Just curious if that's the norm so I know what to expect.
3) Kind of general, but what have you found to be the most difficult part of the program (a specific class, workload in general, all of it :)).
Thanks again!

Hopefully NursingCAS can turn it around for you. Maybe tomorrow actually counts as the deadline rather than today? Sending good thoughts!!
