Rutgers ABSN FALL 2016

Published

Hey everyone,

I just attended the Rutgers ABSN information session this past Monday. It seems there were a couple of people applying for this upcoming fall (2016), including myself, and it was suggested that we connect! I'm applying to both campuses but hope to get into Newark at the very least since its a closer commute for me. I'm just starting the NursingCas application.

Who else is applying for this upcoming fall?

Tell us what you think of Rutgers University.

1. Good mix of both!! People are definitely interested in getting together to study, you just have to find your people.

2. Last fall cohort is my cohort, so yeah, Mid July we found out. Like right after the holidays I think

3. Difficult things: dealing with the university and its disorganization. Really hoping its better for you, but they have been using "the merger" as an excuse for everything (it happened YEARS ago now) and its not cool at all. We are the last ones to hear any news pertaining to us, and SAVE ALL of your records (immunizations, passwords etc) because it can and will be lost by the university. Difficult classes: Patho for sure will knock you on your ass at first, but if you really work hard in that class it is truly the foundation for all the others. Other than that, I would say all of the other classes are equally challenging but managable, more than anything they are just annoying. Some classes require a lot more time than they are worth, some classes the tests are kind of a pain, but you will definitely be hitting the books for every class. Last diffcult thing is keeping that gas tank full. I'm from northern NJ and many of our clincal sites so far have been much closer to the NB campus, you spend alot of time in the car.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer! This is going to be a long month-waiting is the hardest part!

Ite16 you are an angel!! [emoji120]🏿[emoji72] Thank you so much for answering our questions!

I initially had my application in for the part-time accelerated program and they let us know the month before the deadline that the program was was no longer available, so I'm a little familiar with the charismatic haphazardness that is Rutgers. I gotta hang in there, though, and hope for the best. Good luck to everyone!! [emoji122]🏿[emoji322][emoji323]

Ite16, one last question. I've read under your Fall 2015 thread and a few others that they do accept students below the recommended GPA. Do you know if those students just had a lot of experience or great letters? Congrats again and thank you so much for easing some of our anxiety on this [emoji4]

We got this Kellymartin8!!

You're exactly right! I know several students in the program that were below the GPA reccommendation, and to be honest, some of them currently are at the top of our class.

Thanks so much lte16 - you rock!! Now the waiting begins! I have all of my eggs in the Rutgers basket. Just can't justify spending 2 or 3X that amount for some of the other programs. Here's hoping! :)

Thanks again for helping us!

As far as tuition goes, I thought the program costs $30,000. Does anyone know if this is correct? I only ask because you mentioned it was cheaper than other programs, yet I was under the impression this was more expensive. At least it is compared to NJCU. Thanks for your help!

I heard they average around $26,000 at Rutgers so that sounds about right if you factor in fees, books, etc.

I checked out the NJCU website and I couldn't find out any info about tuition. Do they only accept students for the fall? Perhaps if Rutgers doesn't work out, I could enter theirs for the Spring.

Thanks! That's what I thought it was around. NJCU is about half of the price as Rutgers. They have a program in Wall that begins in May and a program at their Jersey City campus that begins in September. Unfortunately they don't let you apply to both campuses :(

Called and spoke to a representative about when we should hear back from the school. He said the committee would like to reach out to everyone at least by the first week of July. He joking said he doesn't want to ruin anyone 4th of July, so they plan to have decisions out the week before or after the 4th of July weekend.

@klouis001 - thanks for letting us know! Let's hope those on this thread have good news we can celebrate over the holiday weekend!!

Random question for all: does anyone know when the deadline to submit the FAFSA is? I'm seeing random discrepancies online regarding state requirements, and also that individual schools may have their own deadlines. Just wondering if we need to get cracking on that ahead of hearing acceptance decisions... thanks!

@klouis001 thanks so much for updating us! I hope these next few weeks fly by!

@dantin28 I second that notion! Not too sure about FAFSA :(
