Rush- GEM Program

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

I am wondering if anyone is currently in the Rush GEM Program or knows anyone enrolled. I have applied for the program, but because it is so new, I wanted to get as much feedback as possible (pros & cons). With the cost for the program being so high (approx. $49,700/ tuition for 7 quarters), I want to make an informed decision. From what I gather, the GEM program gets you half way to your MSN specialty; although upon graduation you do have a MSN in title.

By the way, I have also applied to the Loyola Accelerated Program.

Hi,

The essay I wrote was from the heart and wasn't technical by any means. I did not have an interview for admission, but I do know that some of my fellow classmates did. I'm not sure why some did and some didn't. Our class was very diverse; all ages, genders and orientation. I do know that they look at the whole person and not just grades like some schools (UIC).

Good Luck!!

Thanks!

I am going to get writing on my essay over the weekend and I had heard that some schools perferred a more technical type and some a more heartfelt one and I was hoping it would be more from the heart.

I went to the Rush open house Wednesday and was very impressed with the program. this is definately at the top of my list.

Hi..I have my interview with Rush coming up for Winter '10 so I was wondering if anyone can please tell me what the interview was like (what kinds of questions) and what I can look forward to. I am extremely nervous and any help would be wonderful!! Also, how long did you have to wait until you recieved a reply?

Thank you so much!!

gocubsgo, I also have an interview with Rush coming up! Maybe we will see each other there :) When Rush called to schedule the interview I tried to ask what sort of format to expect, but was told flatly that they could not answer that. Seems like an odd response. Did you hear anything more? I am curious what the presentation beforehand is all about... I hope it's not just a repeat of the information sessions they hold. I am surprised they didn't provide more info.

Realized if you read through it there's some good info. about the interview on a previous thread:

Oh cool!! I hope that means they are already interested in us..I am not sure if they interview everyone...I asked about the format as well and they did not really answer my questions either.

Thanks for the website!!!

I am kind of nervous because I dont have much health care experience since I am going straight from undergrad.

I had my interview early in May and it was much less formal that I expected as it was just 2 faculty from the nursing department asking questions. About the questions the thread that was posted had many of the questions that were asked. Hopefully you do well!

The interview is fairly informal, but I do think it's important to treat it as a formal assessment of you as an applicant. If you have a fair amount of experience in the health care field, you will be looked on as a more competitive applicant than someone who does not have as much experience (although, this is not always the case).

By all means, if they are interviewing you, they are interested, but they do not accept everyone they interview.

You can always ask them what makes an applicant competitive and how competitive your application is (I did when I was interviewed).

Good luck!

Hi all,

I have a question, did any of you had to take the GRE to get in? Did they ask you to?
