  1. Thanks CH! I should have been a bit more clear, I think... It is after grauation from nursing school that I would attempt 2 part-time positions- 1 PT job in nursing and 1 job going back to work for my current employer part-time. He will most likely pay my full-time salary, even though I am working part-time. (I would not even attempt working while in school full-time) So, I am trying to find out what type of shift work there is for part-time nursing(how many hours a week are expected), are employers willing to hire part-timers as readily as they are full-time employees an how much I would I make(approx) hourly or weekly working part-time..
  2. i am curious as to whether anyone can give me information on working as a nurse part-time. my situation is this: i start an accelerated nursing program this summer and will graduate in late 2010. my current employer would like for me to come back and work for him 2 or 3 days a week (business world). i am considering this because i feel he may compensate me with the full-time salary i am earning now, even though i would only be working 'part-time'. don't get me wrong, i am going to nursing school because i want my career to be in the medical profession. however, if i am able to successfully handle 2 part-time jobs, and the earning potential is there, i feel i must take advantage of it, at least until the school loans are paid off. on that note, i am looking for information on what is considered part-time nursing in hospitals (how many hours &/or days), the compensation i can expect (hourly), etc... any information or helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Hi there, My apologies for taking so long to respond to your post. Thanks very much for all of your useful information. I had my interview in early March and found out last week that I have been accepted to the GEM program. I am very excited; just have a little nervous anticipation about balancing the workload with 2 young kids. I am sure it will all work out. I do have 1 question that perhaps you might be able to help with- as far as the end of the school day, at what time does that usually fall? I ask because summer through Sept/Oct, I am going to have to pick-up my kids from daycare/school and I need to get them by 6P. I do understand that some clinicals can be scheduled into the evening, but I was told they would give notice for situations like these. Otherwise, I am just trying to finish up 2 pre-req courses...Organic chemistry is a lot tougher than I thought it would be! Also, is each quarter 12-weeks? I will check back soon! Take care!
  4. I am wondering if anyone is currently in the Rush GEM Program or knows anyone enrolled. I have applied for the program, but because it is so new, I wanted to get as much feedback as possible (pros & cons). With the cost for the program being so high (approx. $49,700/ tuition for 7 quarters), I want to make an informed decision. From what I gather, the GEM program gets you half way to your MSN specialty; although upon graduation you do have a MSN in title. By the way, I have also applied to the Loyola Accelerated Program.
  5. Thanks very much for the information :) Currently, I live in Chicago and I do not see my family moving in the near future; if anything, we may move to the suburbs when the real estate market turns around. The 2 schools I am looking at are Rush & Loyola.
  6. Hi. I am just finishing up my prerequisites in order to go back for a BSN/MSN. (I originally graduated college in 1992). I am 38, am married and have 2 wonderful children. I have been searching high and low over the years for any type of loan forgiveness programs or tuition reimbursement programs...I had heard that they were 'everywhere' and that everyone was offering opportunities like these, due to the nursing shortage. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions as to hospitals, etc... that may be offering such programs? Any information on the topic would be most appreciated. Many thanks :)
