My friend who's a fellow RN told me about open nursing positions in Iraq. Apparently they are so desperate for nurses there they are offering $200K for just 6 months.
Any info on this? I tried googling it but with no luck
While I support our troops, they DID make a decision to join the Army, etc. and, as a result, they are OBLIGATED to serve. Period.
Not trying to start a fight here- but the sign on bonus and promising "go to school while you serve speel" sucks people in. SOme jump at the chance to join b/c of the war- I understand this and Yes they are doing their job- yes they are willing to serve and most want to go to Iraq and they do feel that is what they are supposed to be doing- it doesn't make their job any easier- and its still hard on them as well as their families- Gone for year and half tours and home for maybe 6 months before being deployed again- I don't think anyone volunteers for that much time away from their loved ones- but they do it b/c it is their job. It makes me mad when people tell me well you knew what you were getting into when you started dating Brian- yes I know that too -thanks punkass for pointing that out- doesn't make the time away any easier- doesn't make the worrying or the fear of what the next phone call will bring go away b/c I "knew" what we signed up for... So unless you have been there and done that- you have no idea.
Just had to say that- hope theres no hard feelings- just how I feel on the matter.
Thanks.

Ps. Just like this Nursing thing in Iraq for 200K a year- sure the money sounds promising- but its a whole 'nother story when you get there I am sure. You never know though unless you live it yourself... Its still just not for me...
i currently work in kuwait and this is the truth about the tax free monies....$87500.00is tax free. you do have to be here for one year
and are allowed to be in the states for 35 days of that year. of course you can't earn any monies when back home on vacation or whatever you're doing for those 35 days.
thank you... are you a nurse?? could you give us contact info... ??
Well there are some myths regarding lifestyles in Iraq found on snopes: http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/combatend.asp
Generally if it sounds too good to be true - it usually is.
Ok, so I have two brothers that are ex military and they are now independent contractors for an American company in Iraq. One is a welder and the other is a mechanic. They both make about about 150k a year. They both live on army bases and are serving the war effort but making much more money than being in the army. Yes, the first $80k or so is tax free but you are taxed on the rest at the $150k tax bracket. They get 4 weeks leave a year to come home. I don't know the name of the company, but its not a myth.

big money to be had, but $200K, haven't heard that - more in the range of $100K
googled and found this - government contracts: http://www.trade.gov/static/iraq_contracts03.pdf
Iraqi nursing services: http://www.abtassociates.com/index.cfm

Another in UAE: http://www.sainternational.us/
I am still researching to find those salary listings... I know my mom was offered a great deal in the early 90's (she's been a nurse for a long time) and it was in the $100K range at that time.... so it might be a whole lot higher now... I'll post back if I find anything more specific
My first instinct tells me this is urban legend.I would like to be proven wrong, though.
it isn't. I worked alongside those training to go over to Iraq as private security - (Blackwater) - these guys left their jobs as police officers or sheriff's deputy's (little money they made anyway) to go over to Iraq for a year... making a huge amount of money, and never to return to law enforcement like before... Blackwater did a good job to keep them busy and well-paid.
now this happen back when the war first started so i don't know if it is still pertinent but this friend of mine her husband was a paramedic and he went to iraq she worked here and they put all of his money on the house payment and they had paid $120,000 by the time that he came backthere was a company at the same time were hiring discharged service men who had been to iraq and the pay was like $150k
look really good before you leap
thank you, Chatsdale - this was back when I was in high school... money might be great - but to put your butt on the line in a way no one might ever understand... priceless....
Not for me, thanks. I value my life more. And the idea of doing anything that makes me look like I support George W. and his war makes me sick.
this crap has been going on long before George W. and his pop.... and will go on forever... despite our best efforts. Why wake a sleeping giant... oops - nevermind!
