rules of injections

been doing it a long time and will not bend--learned you draw what you shoot and only shoot what you have drawn! have pressure to shoot what others draw up--still refusing!!!!

Where do I find this guideline to show to "powers in charge"????? Have looked all over tx board website it's my license at stake(they don't have one) or my job HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL.. I agree with RNINME.. Won't do it.. Can't make me. If you go the the BON website, I believe under where they list what LPN/RN responsibilities are, you might find it but if not the call the BON and they will tell you where to find it. They teach us a lot of things in nursing school that aren't play out "in real life" but there are several things that were taught, such give only what you draw... that will save your license.

I worked too hard for my license to give it away by giving a med someone else drew up. Just because it is customary, doesn't mean it is right. It used to be customary for nurses to give up their seats to doctors when they walked into the nurses station. I know it is a different situation but just because it is customary doesn't mean it shouldn't change.

I know giving Rx someone else has drawn is wrong, but I do it and allow others to do it if the peson who has drawn it up speaks diectly to the staff relieving them stating an acceptible reason why the Rx was drawn up and not given. The syringe MUST be labelled with the Rx,date, time, solvent, amount and signitured by the person who drew it up.

I don't give any injections I did not withdraw. And TazziRN is right if its labelled you'll have to assume that what's on the label is what's in the syringe.

Tazzi--she never asks anyone to watch--already has them in syringes and then asks you to shoot. (Wouldn't change my mind though) Several of you say is a trust issue--she also hands out samples, changes meds etc. without dr's order-don't trust her any farther than I could throw her--can only hope doc's stop her now.

im in agreement with some - there are some id trust implicitly and some id trust only if i were there and some id not trust if i were right in front of em lo..l i have given injctions drawn -and had others give what i have drawn out of necessity. i do know what you mean about the know it all nurses that change orders etc - and iyts sad the administration will do nothing - one nurse i know is a docs wife and thinks she knws it all writes orderes under her hubby name all the time and he signs em - time and again i have proven her wrong ( like when she ordered major meds for "shingles" which as i showed my DON and administrator the dangdest case i ever saw ( it was 2 pimples from the cath being to tight against the skin l LOL) it can get scary out there. my only advice is if you ever ever have the slightest question or concern follow your instincts and investigate. hugs all.

The docs are not the only ones who can stop her. She is practicing medicine without a license and should be reported to the BON.

Sharon, you're right, I got you mixed up with Christen. Many sorries!!

good advice unless she has ( like the one i posted about ) back up by the doc or NP etc - turning her in then would cause you trouble on the work front - best to be sure she isnt doing ot with permission or even if without that they wont back her explicitly ( such as the nurse i posted about marreied to the doc who signs her orders when SHE diagnosis our residents even when she is wrong - sigh ) hugs

am afraid for job--they would find out it was me and office mngr would fire!! im scared--population under 3000 no other jobs in field closer than 2 hours-- can you report anonymously---or is there protection for reporting??? I report to chief of staff every time I see it.

supposed to be annonymous however - state reports get checked thouroughly and trust me someone will find out or guess who did it and they will find sime mundane reason to get you out the door. i know it happened to me - i am in same rural area as you and instead of 10 min to work i now have to drive 40 min ( however it all worked out well i like where i am now and the boss hired me on me telling that i was fired due to turning someone in to state - ) good luck. it sucks we cant be assured annonymity - hugs
