RueEd or Excelsior College

I recently completed an application for Excelsior College. Now I was informed by a fellow LPN that the RN classes would take longer to complete with Excelsior than RueEd. Can anyone offer feedback, I already started the application process with Excelsior but I am curious about RueEd.

Rue is a publisher that writes study guides for EC exams. They do not offer classes or exams, simply charge you lots of cash for information that you can obtain from EC for free!

Be careful if you sign on with any of the publishers. You can obtain study information for free from EC.

Beware! RUE is not an LPN-to-RN program. RUE is nothing more than an overpriced publishing company engaged in the business of selling materials that eventually lead to an Excelsior College degree. Therefore, Excelsior College is really the school you're dealing with.

Most people are able to earn their LPN-to-RN bridge degree from Excelsior College without going through expensive publishing companies such as the College Network and RUE. Buyer beware!

wow..negative people on the 'publishing companies'....let this person do their own research and do what's best for them.

first, EC doesn't offer FREE materials. well, they give you a free study guide that has a bunch of questions and then you need to purchase all the study materials to look everything up. If someone needs the whole program, there are 50+ textbooks....going through RUE or The College Network provides one guide per class and all the information that you need to know is in the guide.

I know about the colllege Network because i'm in their program.....they have 15 hours a day of phone support, guarantee their materials...Excelsior doesn't. Plus, TCN is affiliated with the NLN!!! that means something to you people, right??? The National League for Nursing.

Excelsior doesn't want you to get your study materials from these places because they want YOUR money going to them....not to TCN. it's a money game.

You're going to end up spending the same amount, regardless of where you get your study materials. you just have to decide if you have time to go through that many textbooks, or do you want the "cliff note version."

keep in mind most of these people only have bad things to say about places like The collge network for a few reasons:

1. they didn't use them and have no real knowledge about them.

2. they signed up and didn't put the work into it and failed a course. now, instead of taking responsibility for not preparing the proper way....they have to blame someone else.

3. they work for Excelsior....hmmm.

there are threads in here with people having great experiences and bad with places like RUE and The college Network.......unfortunately, most of the ones with good experiences don't have time to listen to the BS about all of this. They got it done and moved on.

however, most of you know that where there is one bad apple the rest will follow...and spread their bad seed around because they feel that they have to vent to feel better.

keep in mind, that online study or at home study isn't for everyone....there are people that fail classes and sit in a regular classroom and there are people that will fail classes doing it online or through at-home study....that's college!

What you have to determine is are you someone who can study at home or do you need a teacher telling you what to do.

if you have good study skills and actually study and take notes, make flashcards, you will pass. If you half-a$$ it, you won't....

make the choice based on what will work for you...do your own research. you can listen to what others are saying, but don't let a stranger on this site dictate what you should or shouldn't do.

whatever you do, stick to it, focus, and before you know it, you'll be done.

I am have been a Paramedic for 8 yrs in Florida and have been a Flight Medic for 1 yr. I am extremely interested in pursuing my RN degree. I have read sooo many posts yet still remain confused on which way to go. I have some pre-reqs out of the way yet still need A&P, micro, psych. I'm not sure if I should apply to EC or utilize a program called DLSII Distance Learning Systems, or even one such as RueEd If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

I was very confused at first. But after many days and hours of research, I found that Excelsior was my best choice. Excelsior was designated by the National Leauge for Nursing (NLN), center of excellence in Nursing education. They will recommend books to buy, but you can buy any book from anywhere that you feel comfortable with to help you pass the course. There is also an excellent support group on yahoo for Excelsior nursing students which I feel anyone would find extremely helpful.

quick note, before you start contact your State Board of Nursing to see if Ec is a recognized program in your state. I live in PA. and EC is the only home study program recognized to sit for the boards. also regardless of which way you you decided to study whether it be guides fron Rue, College Network or EC continue your application in order for any of your test to count you must be enrolled in EC to have your scores excepted. Dont get me wrong you can take a lot of courses before you actually have to be enrolled, I think up until nursing concept 2 your ok but why take the chance. What it boils down to is you can take all these test but your not guaranteed exceptance. It would be like taking classes at EUP and hoping IUP excepts them, its very unlikely that it would happen that they would not but like the saying if can it will you never know. NO sense wasting money. GOOD LUCK!!

P.S. Make sure you check into their financial Aid they give a lot of scholarships.

i am doing alot of clep for my gen eds. do i have to have an app on file with ec in order for my test scores to be sent to them before i enroll.

I not sure but I would think so. If your not in the process of enrolling or are not enrolled how would they know where to place your scores? I would definetly call them and see what their policies are. I was enrolled prior to taking my first test so I never went through this. Let me know?

"All the study guides" I bought was about 5 textbooks total for the NC courses. All of which I sold on Ebay, and got most of my money back.

No, they sell study guides for colleges that are NLNAC accredited. That includes Excelsior. EC has great phone support- I never had a problem with them when I did the program.

Excelsior gets your money anyway. TCN forwards your money to them for the exams. They are not losing money, but you are.

Again, not true. I spent about $5000 for my ASN directly through EC (100% of which I was reimbursed through my employer). How much have you spent?

2. Passed with flying colors without a publishing company.

3. Don't work for Excelsior.
