Roseman University 18-month Program?

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

Hi everyone!

I saw a couple of thread regarding Roseman's nursing program but most of them are dated from 2012 or so. Anyways, I was curious if there is anyone currently in the 18 month program and how do they like it so far. I'm going to be starting there this August and just wanted to hear from current students.

Is there many that end up not being able to finish at all because of the 90% threshold?

For the people who have completed, or are currently attending the program, what do you find the most challenging part? Is it the exams? competencies? skills? lab? clinicals? Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Hey UNLVhopeful,

How was the interview for Roseman? I have mine on August 19th and I'm pretty nervous about it !

Hey jsweet14,

How was the interview for Roseman, and were you able to find an apartment yet?

They only ask you 4 questions relating to teamwork, ethics, professionalism and academics. It was simple, there were two faculty members interviewing, each asked two. The essay you write is pretty easy too. They give you two questions to choose from and you have 15 minutes to do it. I wouldn't stress it at all! I know easier said than done, I was nervous for mine too:) good luck

Man, I totally forgot I made this thread! Anyways, update time: I'm still in Roseman and from my experience so far it is definitely doable. But is it easy? Nope! If I could summarize this school in a sentence it would be: they want to pass with a 90% or higher on the exams and stuff but you gotta give 100%! I think that's the reason why working while in this school is really difficult and I feel bad for my classmates that still have to work and families to take care of. I can't imagine how hard balancing studies and all that stuff would be. :(

PS I know one of my group members posted on this thread :D

Probably me!!!! Lol!!!! Just wait til I get to class, I'm gonna ask who you are lol!!! But yes, it's not as bad as I thought. I'm glad I'm here and not UNLV

I'm halfway done as Roseman and can say that you can do it! I am at the Utah campus though and its smaller and the teachers are way more available here. I hope everything works out for you all!

HI VEGAS VOLT,

Just to ask some questions, YOU said at first you were terrified with the 90% of the grade. And seriously I am feeling that too, I am currently talking to the ABSN advisor but, honestly, I am leaning forward more with the traditional 18 months, its like 2 months difference with the ABSN.

I also love the fact of the block curriculum so that I can just concentrate on that alone. I've alays been used to having one class to concentrate the only problem I have is the 90% really scares me.

When you were explaining how the testing works, you mentioned first they have a test individually? and then they have a group test? is that what you mean?

- or When you guys take the test ( the whole class, and of course in your class, there is a group you are assigned to) if your group scored and most of your group passed the exam with flying colors, that is a good sign and there would be a score added t your group? So on my understanding, if you have a group of people who really are good in test taking and smart, its a good sign and might help you bump ur ur score?

You also mentioned that if you scored 85% you should be fine? Is it because of the additional points that will be added to you final score?

That is the only thing that scares me with this program, but the blocking system is the one that sells me to this school.

When they say individual test you'll be taking the test by yourself. After that, we take a group test and if the group test gets 90% or higher you get extra points that go towards your individual test score. If the group test doesn't score 90% or higher no extra points will be added.

We also have a challenge period where if there were answers that also could be considered correct you can reference your reasoning for selecting that answer and possibly get extra points towards your individual score that way.

Hi,

How did the 90% grading system worked out for you? I am just really scared of that, it sounded like an almost perfect score thats why....

There's no need to be "scared" of the curriculum at Roseman. First of all, you pretty much always get the group points. Once you have all your group together, you figure it out enough to get 90% no problem. I'm in the ABSN program and I can say that my degree in kinesiology was MUCH more difficult than the ABSN program at Roseman. The exam questions can be tricky but if you study the right way, you will be fine. By the "right way" I mean, you need to focus on how the material relates to nursing and the nursing process. The nursing process is, in a nutshell, assessment, diagnosis, intervention and evaluation. If you combine that with risk factors that go into each disease, you will have it down.

Some people might feel different but if you were able to excell in science classes like anatomy and micro, nursing school will not be that hard. We have waaayy more freetime than I ever anticipated.

The students in my cohort have little to no problem with the curriculum or the difficulty of the program, complaints are more directed at the disorganization of the whole program in general. But the way I see it, it's a relatively new university and I give them the benefit of the doubt. Then again, I'm only in block 5 and I really haven't been impressed with any of the faculty, save for my clinical instructor right now whom I really like.

Roseman has high NCLEX pass rates and it gets the job done, I have no regrets.
