Stop by, introduce yourself, say a little about yourself. :)
I'm a mid-life career changer. I graduated LPN school in July, passed boards in Sept., and started working on a cardiac floor in November. My plan was to start the transition program in Jan., but there is so much to learn at work, that I've put it off until May. I work at a 600+ bed L2 trauma center where education is stressed. I'm starting an arrhythmia class in January (weekly for 8 weeks, at my hospital, get paid for class!!), and do an advanced IV class next week.
All my pre-reqs are done, so I have only 3 semesters of nursing classes to take.
Hey Everybody,
Over 35 career changer here,
I've been an LPN since 2003. I started out working in a hospital on the Oncology/Med-Surg floor. I enjoyed caring for my pt's, but the stress was too much. I got into Occupational Health, less stress(I actually get a lunch/bathroom break now!ha)... The plan is to be an RN student this fall..
The thought of working and going to school full time is exciting and scary... But it will be worth it!
Hi! I'm an LVN in northern California. I'm 35, married, with 2 adorable, redheaded kids. I just finished the last classes I need to apply to the LVN-RN ADN program at the local CC I've been attending for what seems like forever. I get to apply in February and I am very excited!
I've had my license for almost three years, but have only worked for the past year. I work in a LTC facility and I love my residents but not management. :roll
Eventually, I would like to get my NP...but I am in no hurry.
Well I'm an old bird! 58 --been an LPN for 12 years, started for my RN about 6 or 7yrs ago so lost all the nursing courses. So here I go again! I'm working at a VA in NJ. Geri/pysch formally and now we've changed to palliative care. I'm only on my first course-Nursing Concepts 1. I'm taking it through Excelsior College-just paid the money for the test--I'll take it the first week in February.
I am curious of those LPNs that are in a Bridge program, is that something like advance placement into an RN program?. The college I'm at has a program, that allows you to knock off the first year of clinicals (assuming you pass all the entrance exams, and have worked 1,000hrs).Placement is as 2nd year student in an Associate program. Of course you have to get your Gen eds done as well.
I went straight for my BSN; the local CC stinks, and is soooo backed up w/ waiting... I was able to "avoid" one med-surg. clinical, and OB-PEDS clinical. Still had to take OB-PEDS bookwork, though. In a way, I "did" have advanced placement....as long as I had an LPN license.

Hi, I'm Mary.
I have been a LPN since 1983. I currently am a school nurse. I work for two elementary schools. I spend one half of my day @ one school and the other half at school # 2. I signed up with Rue Educational Systems better than 2 years ago. I have not studied the modules as I should. I'll start off studying well and somehow not study for a couple of months. I forget the objectivies and find myself restudying concepts that I have already covered. My thinking that becoming associated with a network of nurses could be beneficial in my pursuit of accomplishing my dream of becoming a RN.
Hi Nursesherry,
Don't beat youself up. I too signed up with Rue two years ago and have not taken my firsy test. I have been carrying my nursin concept book around and it is worn. I plan to make 2006 the year that I reall focus on completing the courses and testing out. A girl whom I know who has been a LPN for better than 10 years. She just passed her clinicals and now waiting to get the OK to sit for her RN boards. She had some ups and downs along the way. But she stuck it out. We must believe that we can do anything that we set our minds to. Besides we have already paid for the materials. Let's just do it!!!!!!!!!
Mary! I's good to hear from you! I thought nurses that work in schools have to be RN'S. I started years again too and got so scared about the clinical being one weekend and so focused on us.My girlfriend at work just finished through Excelsior and she's the one really pushing me to go for it.
Hi all,
Forgive me if this question has been beaten to death: I am beginning my Excelsior program. Am I correct in understanding that I can get the books and study guides directly from Excelsior and test/clep out locally prior to actually enrolling with Excelsior? I have read something like that here on the board. I seem to understand that if you enroll immediately, you have to re-enroll every year?
LVN since 1992. Have Sociology, PE, Speech this semester and then Fine Art and Pharm in the Fall. Shooting for a transitional program in 2007 (sigh). Taking two classes a semester while working full-time on Med-Surg- seems like I've been going to school forever. I do have 3.8 GPA and got Employee of the Month for December, so I must be doing something right! Married for 14 yrs w/ 13 yr old daughter.

Hi Jody~ Sorry it took me so long to answer.....I work Saturdays and Sundays from 6a-6p, then attend classes on Monday thru Friday. Yea, it's a tight schedule, but I figure, if I want this bad enough, then I can do it, right? At work, it's ok. A bit hectic at times, more so the CNA's than the residents, but what can a person do?
Good luck to you!
