Stop by, introduce yourself, say a little about yourself. :)

Thanks Sugga, I'm beginning again. I stopped for a while. I live in Georgia. I became discouraged with our State not recorgnizing Excelsior College as an accredited College. Your words speaks volumes. Oh and congrats are in order for you keepin at it.

Hi yall!!!! My name is Linda Harvey and I am 45 y/o. Just graduated from LVN school in May! it was a fast track 15 month school. Went through a divorce and a move to a different state in that time. I am now in Lexington KY and looking for a LVN to RN program that I can do while working full time at a long term facility. It is so hard to find anything except long term here! I really want OG\GYN job but hard to find with no experience!!!!any suggestions!!! Is there anyone else out there who works in Lexington? thanks!!!!:lol2:

Congrats harvmania on your new license! It is hard for LVN's just starting to get into a specialty area, especially OB. I do recommend that you get into an acute care setting ASAP as keeping skills current will be hard in most LTC settings. You need some good med surg experience! I would do that and then try again for the job of your dreams! Good luck on furthering your education! Don't stop, just keep going!:yeah:

I know, I thought about going the traditional route. But the colleges make you take more classes and it would require me to not work. I'm trying to get out of the math classes. I need to work!

Hello,

I have been a LPN for a year now, and I work currently parttime in longterm care. I have been at this place for 11 months now, and I work scheduled every other weekend, but always pick up 3 more shifts either noc or pm. On pm shifts I do mostly charge nurse. We have constant staff changes and it is exhausting at times. My husband travels during the week so that I only work weekends or Fridays. I start a LPN-RN program which lasts 18 months in Spring 2010. The first semester is only 2 days a week for transitional classes. I am wondering if it is worth to look for a different kind of job during the 3 weekdays I have no school until August. It is hard though to get in clinics without experience in clinics, longterm does not seem to count with this tough job market. I am also worried to not be able to find a job as a RN after graduating in May 2011 with a ADN and longterm care experience as LPN. Do you think that matters? Thank you

I was not a math person till I decided to get degree. Started with algebra. The nursing math is not that difficult (at least for me). Did you get a nursing math book? I read the book and did the questions so many times that I just about wore out the thing. I made sure that I understood everything. What area are you having problems? med units (gram, oz, lb, ml); conversions (g to mg; L to ml); soliving for one missing item--> dr orders x mg in y ml and you have a mg in b ml....how many mgs will you admin or how many ml will you admin; do you have difficulty determining when an IV will finish up (if you start 1000 mls at 0300 how long will it take at 125 ml/hr for the iv to finish?)

Do you know where your weekness is? If so, let us know; we may be able to assist you. After all, this is not rocket science. It took me a little while to get it all together. I learned by failing school tests and then studying what I knew were my weak spots.

You can do it...I know you can. :redpinkhe

Does you state recognize Indiana State University at terri haute's distant learning LVN/LPN --> BSN program. Excelsor is not recognized in Calif but ISU is.

You may want to see if there any LVN/LPN to ADN or BSN distant learning programs in your state. That way you can work and take a class on your time.

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum, but not so new to nursing. I have been an LVN for 24 years. This past year has been a whirlwind of change, and I am excited to say that after YEARS of trying to go back and complete my degree, my time has finally come! I am currently working on my last semester of pre-reqs and just applied to the LVN to RN Bridge program for Spring! I am PRAYING that I make this bridge! Looking forward to moving in and getting my MSN for Family Nurse Practitioner. Feel a bit silly doing all of this at my age, but hey who says there is an age limit on when you stop learning and growing professionally? Hope I can offer encouragement to all of you who are hard at it, because come January I am going to need some too!

See you on the boards!

Robin

Robin, I change careers from being a malpractice paralegal...at an age similar to yours. :yeah: for going foward.

Are you going for you AA degree or BSN.? Some colleges have accelerated MSN degrees for ADN RNS to MSN.

Best to you, g

Hi all! I'm 23, I've been a CNA for 3 years, I'm finishing my Phlebotomy license and now I'm starting LVN school! I'm hoping to work my way up to RN and maybe even up to NP. :)
