I suppose I'll start. I completed an LVN program in the Los Angeles area in October 2005, passed NCLEX-PN in January 2006, and have been working in LTC in Texas throughout the past 2 years. Since August 2006, I've accrued 38 credit hours worth of prerequisite classes toward a local LVN-to-RN bridge program.

I have been an LVN for 17 years , I work full time as a home health nurse and part-time in our small hospital , I love it , I have no desire to go back to RN school. The money is great for a LVN in Texas and I truly enjoy my work,

I recently Graduated from Hohokus school In Ramsey NJ.:nurse: I still cant believe its over, all the long nights of studying, the early morning clinicals. And the stress of taking HESI. It's all over. I sent out all the required paper work and paid the fee's to take nclex, so now im just waiting on a confirmation email, hopefully I dont have to wait forever. My long term plans are to enroll in EXCellsior college for my RN. then get a job in LD.

Hello,

I've been an LPN for 16 yrs:nurse:. Worked in LTC all 16 yrs:saint:. I have worked at 4 different homes it that period of time. 3 yrs at present job. Wouldn't have it any other way:heartbeat. I am very satisfied with staying an LPN:nurse:. I have no intention of becoming an RN:nono:. I think further education would fry brain cells. That's my opinion only. If you worked with some of the RN's I've worked with in the past 16 yrs you would totally understand.:lol2::lol2: I love the elderly, where else other than books can you learn about history? :typing I Had a 105 year old patient who just died 2007 Oct. remembered the invention of Telephone, automobile, the first non steam engine train that passed through the area. She was a great historian, I call that job satisfaction. :twocents::twocents:

I went to LPN school in 1972 joined the army and then reclasified in 1984 but I promised myself when my youngest graduated from college I would go back and get my RN I am in my first semester of nursing classes. The old professors and I get along great but I have a new profesor that couldn't find the linnen closet in the dark that hates me. She had this new 3 ft long equation to figure meds and I said D over H X q it's not fancy but it works. She told me the old way won't work any more. I know a lot has changed but surley the prescribed amount over the have amount times the quantity still works. Then on to IV where I said dose over minutes times tubing she said I was stupid that would not work. I can't figure out this thing where we are canceling ML's and grains and moving numbers but I just have to believe that the old way still works. Any advice will be apreciated

Your Professor has her head up her you know what. I just got an 100 on a math test using the old methods. They work! I don't like the new way. Why make something so confusing when it can be so simple? Do it your way. As long as the end answer is right, the method doesn't matter. This professor sounds threatened by your experience. You can outnurse her any day with one hand and 3/4 asleep and know what she is doing wrong, where the newbies don't. Definately stick with it. You could refer her to the Picker math book which teaches the simple formulas, but she would probably say that an expert in nursing math doesn't know anything, either. :banghead: Any teacher who says a student is stupid is stupid herself.:twocents: She probably can't hack floor nursing. Good luck, I would just stick with it and aggrivate her by your mere presence.:nuke:

I WANTED 2 BE A TRAINED ASSASSIN WHEN I WAS A KID :yeah:BUT THE MILITARY SEEMED TOO HARD AND I CRY EASILY WHEN IM YELLED AT. SO HEY I FIGURED WHY NOT NURSING. I GOT MY LVN IN OCTOBER 2006. WORKED IN SNF/LTC, DID SOME HOME HEALTH AND I HAD 1 PRIVATE PATIENT. NOW IM WORKING REGISTRY :nono: TAKING PRE-REQ'S FOR THE RN PROGRAM. GOT ABOUT 3 SEMESTERS LEFT OF PRE-REQ'S, WISH ME LUCK.

O.K. can add another year to my life from the last intro LOL......now been in this calling for 19 years! Have my views changed? Maybe, too much paper work and less pt. care. Not enough money and too many hours. Way, Way too many bosses and not enough worker bee's. (I include myself in the worker bee part). Do I still love what I do? YES!

Would I go on to get an R.N? NOOOOOOO. I have one foot truly grounded in caring for the pts. while still being aware of the focus of the higher political and economic rule. You can call it a comfort zone, but I call it a calling. I remain where I can do the most good for the people I care for.

HI I am JoAnn. I am graduating this June 2008, (can't wait) (but scared stiff) and I will be studying every single day for the boards. Then once I pass, I too will be back here to let every know I passed. Then I'll be a LPN! YAHOO!!!!!!!!!

School has been tough.. went back to school after all these years.. I'm in my 40's... but it has been well worth it. I always wanted to be a Nurse and I had this chance and took it.

I will be back for encouraging words for my daily studying group.

Have a great day! AND thank you for all of the LPN's out there that are making a difference in someone's life and for having the love in your heart for being a NURSE! :yeah:

Hi! I have been posting on Allnurses for a long time now but I have never formally introduces myself on the LPN forum.

Hi! I am a new LPN just finishing last year and received my license last September. I work in the ER at my hospital. I love it! The RN's love it! I am on the list to bridge at my local college, but after talking to people I am thinking about Excelsior or Indiana State online. What do you guys and gals think who are doing that?!! I would love input on the online schools! I work full-time and would love to keep working but get my RN. I am very proud to be an LPN. I do everything the RN does, except push IV meds. I have learned so much and it's just the tip of the iceberg! My nurses teach me anything I want to know and critique what I do know. It's awesome!

Get Lippencott's review and take the test soon after you get your testing number! Don't wait weeks! I took mine a week after school was out and passed with the minimum of 85 questions. 20 questions of your boards are not scored, just questions they are thinking about using on the test. You will not know which ones! You will be fine! Good Luck!
