Roll call: Hillsborough Community College Spring 2011

U.S.A. Florida

I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.

My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*

I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)

Wish me luck!!!

All I read on the last blog was "got. My letter" and I almost chokedon my lunch....as I looked closer that was not the case.... so here's to waiting alittle longer..good luck to all

almost jumped out of my seat here at work when i read "i got my letter"....but i finished reading the rest of it. its almost here

Haha, sounds like I'm not the only one on the edge of my seat!

How funny, I also read "I got my letter" and immediately yelled to find out where the mail was before I read the entire post....:lol2: The next few weeks are going to be long.....

Hi everyone. I have a question that someone might have the answer to that has been through the application process before. I have recently moved and I don't think that my address change is going to be applied to the letters they are going to send out. I am having the mail forwarded but that is probably going to delay when I will receive the letter. Does anyone know if it is reflected in hawknet or anything once we are accepted? Thanks.

I just changed mine at the end of the semester. To check if it updated log into Hawknet Webadvisor, look for the address change option, it should be on the right side of options. The website is down for maintenance right now, so I can't double check. Anyway, it will show the most current address on file. We're almost down to days instead of weeks :) Good luck all !!!

Has anyone called the nursing department to find out if the committee got together and made their decision? I know from reading last years posts there were people that had called and were told they had made their decisions and the letters were being completed. Just checking......

As "rmartineau9" said, the 17th is quickly approaching! :yeah: I hope that the letters go out about the same time as last year!

Problem is it isn't reflecting the address change in hawknet profile so I am sure they are going to mail it to the old address. What I was asking was will anything in hawknet be updated with regards to acceptance in the nursing program or will I just have to wait for the letter. Thanks....

im thinking the "committee" is going to be meeting some time next week....hopefully monday and we all get our letters on fri or sat, mon at the latest! its FINALLY almost here! YEA!(i hope!)

eric- when i changed my address it took alot of work, i think i went up to hcc like 3 different times before they changed it and it showed up on hawknet. more than likely if the new address doesnt show up on hnet and/or you put the old one on your app, then your letter will go to the old address. my advice is to call or go to hcc and demand a fix...im sure since there hasnt been a "committee" meeting yet, the letters are not addressed yet so you prob have time. as for a change on your app status on hnet, i doubt that will change for any of us for awhile just because of how long it took for the reciept of our apps to show up and the fact that we have to "accept" our spots. good luck... hope you dont have to wait too long...... we have all waited long enough!

Thanks. I think I'll skip the lines at hcc. I don't know what's going on this year but the place is run terrible. Anyone know how many applicants there were for the spring??

Aaaaaah! We *could* get our letters this week! I am sooooo anxious! Has anyone emailed M.F. to ask specifics about WHEN the letters were getting mailed? I've emailed her so many times since June, I shouldn't send her another email. lol I emailed her last week to ask about whether or not the committee had met yet, and she gave me the generic "we will be meeting the middle of Sept, and I'll mail out the letters right after that" answer.

But, if one of you want to email and try to get a specific answer...let us know what she says! ;)

This week is going to drag by! I am sure if we send an e-mail we will get the same answer you did. If none of us hear anything by mid next week I will send an e-mail, that is unless someone else gets an answer first. I assume the list of people being accepted into the program is already prepared and made so all the committee has to do is vote and agree to it.

I'm sure the wait is "killing" all of us! I keep wondering if my GPA is going to be calculated correctly since I have attended several colleges and of course hoping I submitted everything right.
