Roll call: Hillsborough Community College Spring 2011

U.S.A. Florida

I'm sure that it's probably waaaay to early for this thread, but I figured what the heck. I have all of my application documents just about ready for submission. Just need to add the self addressed postcard and my check.

My main concern though is my Eng I credit. I already have a BS in Biology. The school I attended rewarded me with the Eng I credit based solely on my ACT score. I was originally going to apply for the Spring 2009 class and as I was reviewing my transcripts, I notice that HCC had not given me credit for Eng I. I contacted the Dean of Student Services at the DM campus about it and he referred me to the Asst Dean. From there it pretty much got ugly. My transcript originally had it listed as CLEP credit but I didn't have any CLEP scores of course. I had transferred several times and was given credit every where I went with no questions asked. Not to mention that I actually already have a BS so you would think that I wouldn't have to worry about any of the general education courses. I told all of this to the Asst Dean and the reply that I got was that the original "college awarded the credit in an unorthodox manner and that it wasn't her fault that HCC had higher standards than the other institutions that I had transferred to." Her email pretty much told me to f off in a not so nice way. It didn't help that I gave her a piece of my mind after receiving such a response. *sigh*

I managed to get my original transcript updated so that it no longer says CLEP. It says "ACT score 28" instead. I had an updated copy sent to HCC along with a letter explaining the change, however HCC has yet to update anything. That was last August. Sooooooo, I will be trotting my happy butt in to see an advisor on Friday and praying like heck that they make the change and accept the credit. Because I already have my BS, I absolutely refuse to go back and take Eng I. I'm not happy at all with HCC's administrative staff, but because I can't find another true evening nursing program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I'm pretty much stuck with them. I can't afford to quit my job and go to school full time...if I could I would be doing USF's accelerated program instead. :)

Wish me luck!!!

Thanks for the info!! A couple of those hospitals are fine; however my fear is that I may end up in Lakeland or more east. I live in PC so the campus is VERY close but my job is in South Tampa. I'm still trying to decide should I be given a chance to change my 1st campus choice. Where are you hoping to be? How does your friend like the program at PC, I like to hear what she thinks. At one point I read a lot of people were not happy but I think things may have changed a bit.

So far, she loves it. She said her instructor is great (however, it is very early in the program, lol)! I have heard good/bad things about both campuses....but it's a hard program, so of course there's gonna be different opinions. My friend was given a choice between those three locations for her clinicals...which is good because I'd like to be able to have SOME say in where my clinicals are. I'm hoping to get the DM campus. I'm not sure if they allow campus choice changes, but I have 'heard' that during orientation the students are told that after the first semester, there's a chance to change due to availability from students who drop out.

People on this site are saying if we are accepted that we will be recieving another campus choice to complete, so I was wondering if the original one we completed and turned in with the application even counted.... If I end up at PC I will make the best of it. I just hoped to save a bit of gas and time traveling. I really don't care as long as I am admitted.:)

I have a 3.58 pre req gpa. want DM campus. I live in south tampa and dont have a car. its going to be a long bicycle ride to plant city, LOL. but i guess i could stand to lose 5#. glad i didnt drive myself crazy over the last 3 months about it, am not checking my mail till tuesday. maybe by then we will all have some good news.

Good Morning everyone, sorry its been a while since my last post (been a little busy with work, school, and life). I told some of you I would try and keep you up to date about how things are going in my first semester. Well I am at PC nights with Ms. ****and LOVE IT! She is an amazing treacher so if you are lucky enough you have her pick her brain for every little bit of information. I also have gotten my clinical location, I will be at TGH with Ms. **** (awesome too).

As far as the work load and everything its been a lot but very do able, you just have to make the time and figure out your study habits early!!! I want to make all of you aware that you will have to complete some extra hours outside of the normal class hours. We are having to do 10 open lab hrs, 5 computer hrs, and a community project (health related). Granted your professor may be different. I will try my best to give you all as much information as I can whenever I can but if you have any questions just let me know.

Hi guys.

Wow, it is getting close and I am on the edge of my seat. I can't wait for tuesday!

I have a question, do any of you know whether or not they send rejection letters?

I mean regardless of whether I get in or not they will let me know correct? Thanks.

Good luck everyone :):)

From what I have read on prior semester posts from this web-site they send letters to everyone that applied. I could be wrong but I do remember reading some pretty unhappy posts.

I can't wait until next week either!

Ok, so I couldn't contain myself and I emailed M.F. yesterday. I asked her if the acceptance letters would possibly be mailed out today (Friday), so that we might have our letters this weekend. She emailed back and said "Yes, I will start mailing the letters out on Friday." I'm guessing since she said that she would "start" mailing them out, that all of them aren't going out today, but at least we know that the wait it almost over!

I will be waiting on the mail lady tomorrow!! WOOHOO!

Wow! I just checked my "Progress Towards Degree Requirement" and between yesterday and today they have entered many of the classes I have taken; however, my English from 20 years ago, Micro Bio, and my A&P I & II are not entered. Of course I'm excited to see that some of my classes are entered but now I am concerned that whoever reviews transcripts overlooked a couple of my classes. I have 3 separate transcripts for them to review.... Of course I've heard of someone overlooking grades and classes when entering and because of that they were not accepted into the program, of course that would be my luck.... UGH! This is killing me!!!!!

I read that they send out letters to everyone as well.

crynholder: Thank you for the positive info, hearing from someone who is going through the program make me so much more excited! Do you have any suggestions for preparing for us? I have ordered older versions of the clinical calculations book and an NCLEX study guide to read over while I am waiting because I head all our tests will be given NCLEX style (got them each for under $5 each on Ebay).

COME ON TUESDAY, THIS IS GOING TO ONE WEEKEND I CAN'T WAIT TO BE OVER!!!!

Is everyone else taking classes this semester? What classes are you taking? (I am taking Chem for Health Science, Public Speaking, and the stupid computers course the college requires for graduation)

If that's the case, and HCC has made a mistake, you can fight it (I think they call it an appeal). BUT, just wait a few more days for that letter before you freak out!!! :) I know it's easier said than done though!

Of course I bet because it will probably go through the "mail system" on campus for postage, they won't be actually in the mail till Monday..... But I'll be waiting at the mailbox tomorrow too!

Has your "Progress Towards Degree Requirements" changed? I checked mine today and it had.....

Go on HawkNet web adviser and check your documents, there will be one listed called nursing prerequisites, if they received all of them it will say received if they did not it will say incomplete.
