Roane State Nursing Students?

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

I just joined this site in May, after I got my letter for NS. I was just wondering how many people out there are attending Roane State's Nursing Program?

For anyone that is a second year...has anyone ever had Professor Brown for clinicals? She is at the Magnolia campus and I have her for clinicals. I've never met her, so I'm not sure what to expect.

Okay....you Nurses and 2nd year students....I am feeling very overwhelmed in Pharmacology with all the drugs....HELP!

Help me too! I have no idea how I'm supposed to know all of those!

Hey everyone, just wanted to post and let you know that I was one of the unfortunate 2 people who failed the 3rd semester math test, so I have to start again next Fall. I have been sad and angry this week on and off esp since I have become so close to my classmates from last year. But, now I am resolved to begin again next year; I have another chance and I'm not going to give up! I am having my test anxiety documented at the guidance center so I don't have to go through a math test again w/o some accommodations! If any of you have the symptoms of test anxiety have it documented (basically, you know the material and can answer questions when you aren't under stress, but during the test you experience amnesia of a sort)...it is considered a disability and no one told me....so I'm telling you guys! One thing I have discovered about being dropped from the nursing program is that it doesn't kill you...so it must make you stronger! Maybe I will be friends w/ some of you guys next year...that would be great!:heartbeat As, far as Pharm goes make flash cards, I had a hard time in there too, and that was the only thing that helped me pass. List the unique symptoms b/c everything seems to cause N&V and diarrhea!

I am so sorry to hear this unfortunate news. I hope you will still correspond with us. What are you going to do until next fall?

Well, I am giving myself this semester to process through all of this mess and get my test anxiety documented at the Oak Ridge campus. I am going to hopefully get a nurse extern position after New Years to help keep up my skills and work until August. Then I will be ready to start again, I will probably go back to the Harriman campus next Fall, it is a long drive for me but I really like Beverly Rodgers! I have 3 kids 15,14, and 11 and a hubby so I have plenty to do all the time! And I will certainly still be on here and I will be glad to answer any first year question I can.

Hi there!! Im moving to Knoxville from Kansas in about ten months and am looking at Roanes nursing program. Anyone have any insight on the application process and the program??? I would love to know from current students!!

What do you want to know? I'm out of the nursing program until next Fall but I have completed one year so I can answer any question you have from admissions to the end of 1st year.

Thank you so so much!!! Well I already have an B.S. in Science from KSU and was wondering what the general ed req. for Roane were. I believe I should have at least 12 hrs thats required to apply. Also, was there a wait list, how many people are in your class, what are your suggestions for preparing for nursing school? I am getting my KS CNA license early next year and I am starting to do the pre- professional program at our hospital to have experience. Any other ideas????

RSCC offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in a 2 year program. The prereq's for application are A&P 1&2 (Biology 2010, 2020), Microbiology ( Biol 2230), English Comp 1, Psych 220 ( Developmental Psych), Speech, a Humanities like Philosophy 121( Elementary Ethics), Medical Ethics does not fill this requirement, unfortunately. Lastly, you need College Algebra or a Higher level math, I took Probability and Statistics ( Math 1530) this is a good choice for someone thinking of pursuing a BSN later. The more you have done before applying to the Nursing program the better because they look at grades in Math and Science for application purposes. You can not apply unless your math is done. When I got in they took 160 students out of 800 applicants. They do have a wait list but I've heard no one ever gets in off that list, so I'm not sure why they bother to have one. Application deadline for Nursing is the 3rd Saturday in January. Then you take a TEAS test called the nursing school entrance exam in late January early February, and you have to pass 3 out of 4 areas with 80% or better. It's not hard, they sell study guides in bookstores, but it's basically HS level Algebra, Chemistry, Sciences like basic Anatomy, Reading Comp, some Spelling, and a little Geometry. I passed and I never even took Algebra in HS! You should go online to Roanestate.edu and click on Current Student, when the page comes up you will see a link for the college catalog. it will open an Adobe file and you can browse around to see requirement to get into the nursing program and course requirements and descriptions. Let me know if there are any questions the catalog doesn't answer.

Thank you so much!!!! I really appreciate it!!!!!

You're welcome...anytime!
