Roane State Nursing Students?

Published

I just joined this site in May, after I got my letter for NS. I was just wondering how many people out there are attending Roane State's Nursing Program?

Roane State just switched to the HESI A2 test for admission to their nursing program. If anyone is looking at prep books, please keep this in mind. Good luck to everyone!

Thanks...that's good to know!!!

I'm applying for the fall.

I have recently decided to become a nurse. I have 45 credit hours at Pellissippi however in Pre-Pharmacy and I would still need a few classes to apply for Roane State nursing (bio 2010,2020, and 2130). I have not really done that well in alot of classes however these were not classes needed for nursing. My question is on my transcript will RS look at all of my classes or just the ones needed for nursing and will they just go by my prereq. for nursing as my gpa? If they look at everything then I'm done for. P.S. I have classes not needed for RS like bio 1010,1020 both of which I made a B in.

Thanks!

In my case I believe they looked at science grades, math, and overall GPA. I don't know that they care about classes not needed for nursing, but any science needs to be as high as possible (However, I did make a C in A&P 2 and still got in). They also take into consideration you as a student and your entrance exam score. Application deadline for the nursing program is the third Saturday in January each year, and you need your math done to apply; college Algebra 1 or Probability and Stats, also with a high grade. Go on roanestate.edu and click on current student and then on college catalog and find the requirements for entrance and the classes required for a RN degree. Good Luck!

Hey I am looking into Roane State for the LPN mobility program. Are any of you going that route and do you have any info as far as requirements go. The website kind of confuses me. I have all pre-reqs finished and it says I would enter second semester. Are there alot of LPNs in your class? Any info would be greatly appreciated. TIA:)

Just wondering if there's anyone else here that is applying for this fall? I'm taking my entrance test on Feb 27th, it was the only day that didn't interfere with the CNA class I'm taking right now.

First semester classes are Foundations and Pharm. If you are an LPN you don't need Foundations (you will take a competency exam covering Foundations to get in to the program) so you start second semester taking Pharm with the other LPN's and Med/Surg 1 with the students that started 1st semester. I think there were about 6 LPN's at my campus last Spring, and they only offer the program each Spring if enough LPN's apply for it. Go online to the Roanestate.edu site click on "current student", then on "college catalog". When the page comes up there is a search box above "past catalog years" on the right side of the page, type in nursing and then you will see a page where you can choose LPN mobility. I think this page explains it better than the other one in the catalog. Hope this helps!

I'm not sure if this is an older blog or current, so I'm not sure if this message will even been seen. But is anyone applying for the 2010 program? I know it's still early. Graduates or current rscc nursing students, is there anything I can do to improve my chances of getting in? and can you recommend anyone to take for A&P 1 at the Oak Ridge branch? Thanks for all your help :)

I sent you a private message with a little more detail, but I would take Dr. Anthony Jenkins for A&P 1, if you can get into his class. It fills up very quickly.

The best thing that you can do to improve your chances are to make outstanding grades in your Science classes. You are in control of whether or not you get in. Just do your best. If this is your first semester, make sure you take your math. You must have your math completed to apply. I would take a Math, A&P 1 and maybe Speech and Comp 1 this fall.

You do not have to have all of your prerequisites complete to apply. As long as you have at least 12 hours, including a Math, you can apply in Spring. Remember the deadline is usually the 3rd week in January. Double check the date. Do not miss that deadline.

Good luck to you!

Yeah, I almost missed this year's deadline because it seemed like the following week should have been the 3rd. LOL So I agree, double check the actual date.

I would even consider taking classes this summer so you have more sciences out of the way before applying, it will better your chances of getting in.

Thank You both for the help! So far I've taken psy, comp 1, humanities elective, and speech, I've made A's in those classes. I just took my math final today, so I dont have my grade yet, but I'm thinking I probably made an A or B in the class. I took A&P at Cleveland state and made an F! It was horrible. So, I'm really nervous about retaking it. Thank you for suggesting Dr. Jenkins. Does he teach lab? If not, who did you take? Also, how hard was the pretest? I havent got a test date yet, I just put my application in a few days ago, but I will def. be getting the study guide.

Congratulations again!! I can't imagine your nerves as you were opening your acceptance letter :) What a great feeling and relief it must be, hopefully I will be in your shoes this time next year. Thank you again for all of your help. Talk to you soon. Brittany
