RN wanting to higher degree

Published

I am an RN, I will be completing my bachelors degree within the next year. I want to higher my degree. What type of masters degree can I get to get a field away from patient care? Like business, etc.?

I have been thinking about PA or NP. But, also want to choose options other than a masters in nursing.

You hadn't even graduated and you want to get away from patient care? Why did you even go into nursing? It's such a hands on field. Please don't go to NP school if you don't care for patient care. You'd just be taking up the spot of a student who is committed.

Business might be a good fit. No patient care, good hours, probably better pay.

Unless, of course, you want to be an NP. Depending on how you make a determination based on the cited studies on this site, you will do just fine without any RN experience. (Sarcasm intended.) Can you see my bias? Ugh.. Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. If you want to get away from direct patient care, go another route, which can be numerous: master's in informatics, MBA, MHA, for example. Those roles are important too.

What do you want to do career wise? Choose a program based on that.

How can you be a nurse practitioner if you don't even know how to be a nurse yet? Get some experience first.

Do business, that sounds safer for patients.

The poster stated that they are an RN, and are completing their bachelors. Perhaps they've already been practicing (i.e. RN-BSN practicing nurse)?

If that's the case, maybe an MBA? Perhaps an MSN in administration could also accomplish what you'd like to do if you change your mind about a degree outside of nursing.

I have graduated with my associates for over a year

To clarify, I a already an RN

Maybe if some of you would read, I stated that I am an RN. Looking to advance my degree away from direct bedside patient care.
