I'm gonna get a RN tattoo on my scapula tomorrow. I want to add something to it but I'm not sure what I should get.
I thought about an EKG line or the first aid cross.
Does anybody have any ideas? Have you seen any cool medical symbol tattoos?

being prior service army i believe a tattoo is also a commitment. i would very careful and really think about a first aid cross, ekg, or any other medical symbols. i have seen guys get there butt kicked over the wrong symbol or not representing their miliitary ink.
the civilian equivalent would be you hanging out at the beach, lake, waterpark(or any other place people can see your tatt) and having a medical emergency go down. your tatts have now almost committed you to some type of intervention. you will have strangers yelling "do something!"
personally, i would not want to be on the spot like that.
i have a ton of tattoo's & none of them say: army, infantry, death before dishonor, cross rifles, american flag--nothing. i go to the gym without having to represent and run 5miles on the treadmill. i dont feel like a punk for letting my lean & mean body go! a tattoo of these types will make you live a certain standard.
ok..now i have heard it all. you could have a medical symbol for any reason...personal medical issues, a close family member, recovery from a serious illness. it's not like that there is some law barring it unless you are licensed.
no way would i assume that someone had a particular occupation because of tattoos.
they say if you start with one tattoo you will want another one...then three...and still your not satisfied...how about you start with syringe then stethoscope then tounge depressor then bed pan until you can look at your body like medical piece....i'm not very helpful isnt it....sorry.....
I'm a big neuro nerd and was thinking about getting the Circle of Willis tattooed on my upper arm as a graduation gift to myself. (just graduated!!!) I ran that idea by some coworkers one night when I floated to the neuro floor and they all pretty much unanimously agreed that that was the ugliest tattoo idea they'd ever heard of. I still think it would be awesome, though, esp. in light of my upcoming job interview with the nurse manager of the neuro floor:
*Casually rolling up sleeve* "Well let's just say I am EXTREMELY passionate about neurology!".
The sad thing is I am a total wimp who hates pain. I will probably never get a tattoo and if I attempted to I'd probably end up chickening out after one anterior cerebral artery.
i really want to get a nurse pinup girl. I think that would be so cute.
Nurse Pinup girl tatoo! And yet, as a professional group, we still wonder why our reputation and level of respect is often sub-par to other professionals. Why wouldn't it be if you have nurses walking around passing meds or whatever with a pin-up nurse tatooed on their body. It's pretty clear the image she would like to portray as a nurse;and it's not one of professionalism.

Actually, there is no truth to that whatsoever.
The only place I EVER hear nurses bashed is on this message board. I hear people sometimes bash a particular nurse for something that they did, but never the profession itself.

I realize I wasn't clear. Indeed, the general public, when polled, do rate us well. I was referring to the level of respect shown to us by medical and other healthcare professionals. That is a very frequent complaint on this board.

There are unwritten laws when it comes to Tattoo's and obviously you know none of them.. The above post from Mec28 is a great example of what I am talking about..
Mec28, If you get the Neuro tatt.. Good for you, its a free country.. However, I encourage you to keep it to hidden until you have proved yourself on the Neuro floor. Its putting the cart before the horse a little bit. That would not fly in some places.
Um...I was kidding. Trust me, I wouldn't do that in an interview; I'm not an idiot! I suppose the smiley face didn't convey the necessary irony.
