RN Registration to CNO from International trained nurse

Hi I am submitting my application for RN Registration to CNO next week. Can you help me out with some of my questions?

1. how long does CNO give an applicant to complete the registration process after receipt of my application and payment? 2 years?

2. would CNO require course description of my other courses (non-Nursing)? I took up B.S. Computer Science for a year and a summer, and B.S. Psychology for only 1 semester before I took up Nursing. do I send course descriptions on those too?

3. Will they accept an IELTS result more than a year old?

4. What do I send as a proof of PR/landing papers since I'm still in my home country? I'm leaving for Canada in May 2011. Does that mean they won't proceed with my application just because I won't have that one requirement yet? :(

Hope someone can enlighten me with these. Thank you!

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!:reef:

You will need to check CIC website out and see what route you plan on going through. Some IEN are already in Canada and some are getting PR via skilled worker route and some if required get a tourist visa. Some don't require a visa due to the visa waiver program

Hello Silverdragon,

Thanku so much for your guiding informations. I never miss to go through any of your posts whenever I see one. I am a newbie on this site, wishing to work in Canada as a nurse but unfortunately, as the FSW cap for RN can be expected very soon in CIC website( on 6th of September 2011-410 RN applicants reached) I am afraid, I have lost this year's chance to apply under FSW:crying2:. Therefore I am thinking to apply CNO for CRNE. But while going through their(and various other Nursing regulatory bodies in canada) website I found that for the applicant to be eligible for CRNE, they must present their resident status i.e. citizenship,PR,etc.Does this mean that I need to be holding a visa for canada before I apply for CNO?

Also I havent been practising nursing for 2years now so want to apply for some refresher course to update my knowledge and understand canadian health care delivery system:nurse:. Could you recommend me some institutions to start with? what will be the enrollment process?

Please pardon me if I asked too many questions:idea:. Any suggestion would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance:yeah:

Is Ontario where you wish to live and work? If you have IELTS already there is nothing in trying to meet this years cap and if you can find a employer you can still apply via the FSW route

I think you can apply to CNO as a IEN not in Canada however a license will not be issued until in Canada and you can provide the college with proof that you are now a resident. CNO I haven't had any dealings with so you may want to email or chat with them and confirm this. Same goes for refresher courses that offer you an idea on Canadian nursing. Check CNO website as they may have links to courses for IEN that help. I know there are some things you can do in NS but not sure about other provinces

You can still apply to CNO without the PR. However they will only issue the actual license when you provide them a copy of your PR or a valid work permit.

I have results of my IELTS but how can I find an employer when they wont hire IEN without having atleast temporary license from CNO? Do you think it is still possible to arrange an employment though I havent even started to apply for CNO?

Actually I wanted to apply Nova Scotia first but when I went through their registration process I found to my horror that ILETS requirement has been drastically increased with around 7 and 7.5 in all the IELTS bands:eek:. Since my writing is not so good, I am afraid that I may not be able to secure that high score in writing(though my speaking, listening and reading are very good). So I am left with no other option than to apply for CNO which seems to be the only province with no change in its IELTS band requirement.:anbd:
