RN Online?

Specializes in Emergency Room.

I started an LPN program at our vo-tech and I loved it emmensely however I am going to be going through the whole divorce process and becoming a single mom again. My sons will be 12 in April and with the divorce and having the boys I was very overwhelmed with the thought of school on top of that and to start working full time rather than part time as I was doing.

So what I would like to do is find a program online that I can go ahead and do my LPN or even better would be my RN. I've looked online and not even sure where to go and which is a decent school etc.

Sorry for the rambling here, I just feel this is a better option for me with working full time (I can study or do homework at work) and then from home as well.

Thank you for any information in advance!

Hi:

Go to your state board of nursing website. It should have a list of all the programs recognized in your state and which online programs are recognized in your state. This is a better way to find out than asking here coz you might get advice from people who don't live in your state and a school that is recognized in their state might not be recognized in your state.

Make sure that the school is accredited and legit!

Also, even though it says it's online, your clinical courses will be hospital based and therefore, you will need to make time for that. For basic nursing school that's about 2-3 days per week. Have fun! :)

You probably won't find any courses that are strictly online due to the requirement for clinicals. However, there are distance RN schools available where most work is done locally or online. Excelsior College is a distance school that many attend. The clinical experience for this school is a weekend testing session done after completing pre and co requisite courses and nursing tests. One has to insure that Excelsior College is accepted by the individual's state board. For EC, you have to have the LPN license. You will find that there are no online or distance LPN schools. All LPN schools require clinical placements. You really should do everything to complete the program you are presently attending. Then you can consider a distance program for your RN license. Good luck.
