Published

Hi everyone! I passed NCLEX 2months ago, and I am finding a HAAAAAAAAAAAARD time looking for jobs in NY. Anyone kind enough to share who'se hiring out there. Any RN job will do. pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.:crying2:

what's a "VA?"

I know that hospitals upstate are hiring... I think you just need to be proactive about it. I have gotten callbacks and interviews, and have been hired upstate. I called the HR department/nurse recruiter after having turned in my application, just to let them know that I had sent it in and to chat with them for a few minutes about the openings etc. I think that helps a lot, because it puts you fresh in their minds. Better yet, if you can go in person and talk to them to let them know you applied, dress well and look nice! The only places I have gotten anywhere with are the ones that I took the time to follow up on myself. Otherwise, I hear nothing back.

Can you tell me which hospital your talking about. I have a job in a nursing home through an agency. I feel uncomfortable handling 50 patients.

Specializes in Labor and Delivery.
I graduated in May 2009 with my BSN, have sent out hundreds of applications and have had only 2 interviews (I got neither job because I have no experience). It's terribly hard for new grads in NYC right now, I have been volunteering at a hospital for quite some time now and it has not helped me in my job search. I think its about time I really think about packing my bags and going to another state.

Bmichel18,

I'm born and raised in Brooklyn NY and I recently packed my things and moved out to Atlanta,Ga. I have my BSN and when o realized NYC was just congested with new grads I decided to just look in other states. 6 months after graduation I finally got accepted into a Residency program out here. So if I were you I would definitely think about it...

Hello AKAnurse4, I am currently learning how to drive and I am willing to relocate upstate NY (do you have any luck upstate) and Texas (my bf is going to there for his job)...I know the job market is so bad in NYC. I went to the job fair the other day. There are so many new grads. If you are kindly share your story with us will be very appreciated. Thank you very much! :redpinkhe

I didn't try upstate because I was really too sure about up there. But I have loads of family members in Houston that were trying to get my a job out there (my aunt is a nurse as well) because they are definitely hiring out there especially San Antonio and Austin. I love Texas and it was an option but this job came through first; and I have a compact license and Tx is a compact state so it wouldve worked out perfectly :-). If I were you I would seriously consider moving because 1 yr post graduation they are going to consider you an "OLD NEW GRAD" and the chances of you getting hired are goin to be very slim; you'll hear things like " you've been out of school too long" and "you need to take a refresher course" YIKES!!! so definitely think about it :-)

Thank you so much for your sharing. Yes I am really consider going to TEXAS and be with my boyfriend if I have to be alone in somewhere anyway by myself being a nurse. I have been applying some positions at San Angelo (where my boyfriend will be at) and San Antonio. Didn't hear anything back yet. Any suggestion for me? and Your residency program- how do you like it and how do you get it! Thank you so much for your sharing. It really helps me!:heartbeat

Well for my residency program I applied back in Septmeber and got a call back/interview in October and just got hired yesterday. I haven't started yet but residency prgms are really good because you have a precpetor (mine is 18 weeks) for a couple months and then after that you're on your own unless you ask our nurse manager to keep you with your preceptor alittle longer. My suggestion would be to keep callus the nurse recruiter and HR constantly and show then you want the job and your eager to start and learn. You should call them early because the chances of hem answering your calls will be greater.

Wow..Congratulation to you. Keep up the good work and I am so happy for you that you have the opportunity to show them that is worth it to train new grad. :)

Got my first interview scheduled. Such a relief... but now I have to learn all about these performance based interviews
