What is the RN New Grad Pay in Michigan? Anyone know?

I have no idea about Mackinac island... but I'd really rethink moving there year round. No motorized vehicles + a foot of snow in the winter isn't something I'd be willing to do...... also a lot of the businesses there aren't year round they're only open for summer. It's a pretty dead place when it's not warm out....

UofM in Ann Arbor will start you out around $22 for a new RN grad. Not sure what St Joes in Ann Arbor starts at but it's pretty similar. U of M doesn't really pay that much more for shift differential (I think it's only a buck someone correct me I could be wrong) but has good benefits. You have to pay for parking and cost of living is higher.

Hospitals in the metro Detroit Area usually pay a little more ($1-2) more for new RN grads. None of this includes shift differential pay which can add up at many facilities (can be $2+ at several places) and many hospitals in this area offer a quality benefit package and many have free parking.

Western, central, and northern Michigan will pay less than southeastern Michigan. You might make competitively close in Grand Rapids but still less than the large southeastern hospitals.

For the what it's worth department since you asked for suggestions I really like the northern suburbs of Detroit. Great area and an easy commute to TONS of hospitals. You'll always have a job in this area, and if you don't like a facility you're at there are 6 or 7 more equally as close that would love to have you...

god bless you for this information. I am looking for a hospital that would pay a generous sign on bonus and/or reloc package or have a loan repayment program. I have 2 degrees. I am interested in several states/ Thank You from the bottom of my heart for this information and I will keep it in mind. Write back if you need any info.

I am a new grad working in a metro Detroit hospital and I make $24.50/hr plus shift diff. I honestly have not heard of sign on bonuses for nurses without experience in this area. The only thing I have heard of is loan forgiveness programs.

I have a friend (new grad) that was hired late last year who received a signing bonus from St John, they also reimbursed her tuition and related expenses. Did you have zero experience? Does working as a nurse tech/intern before you graduate count?

I am just starting school this summer, just a couple pre-reqs, but I have a friend who graduated last fall and she is making $34 near Rockford for a Grand Rapids-based hospital. She get paid per diem. I have not heard anyone hear mention per diem. I think its where you get a higher wage and not the benefits? If anyone can clearify this for me, I'd be grateful...

You are correct that for per diem you get paid a higher hourly wage and you do not get benefits but you also do not have a guaranteed number of hours each week. They use per diem employess to fill the gaps in the normal staffing. So you could get full time hours one week and nothing the next. All of the GR area hospitals pay new grads in the $22 range plus shift diff.
