RN-MSN program at Aspen University

Updated:   Published

I am enrolled in the RN-MSN program at Aspen University and after finishing the first two courses I feel that this has been a great choice. If anyone out there is looking for an affordable program with solid nursing content check out Aspen. :yeah:

You would find a good education @ Aspen. There is no sense in digging a deep money pit. MSM prints out the same wherever you get the degree

I am very interested in the RN-MSN Nursing Educator track at Aspen. I also looked into WGU, but don't like that their grading is pass/fail. So, Aspen is looking like the better choice at this point.

My question is.... I am definitely interested in working within a nurse educator role, but would also like to obtain a FNP postgraduate certificate. Is there anyone else thinking about this route? I was initially very interested in Graceland's FNP, but the cost is what has caused me the delay in applying. It seems that any postgrad certificates are just about as many credits as the MSN degree itself. I keep going back and forth and am having a heck of a time deciding. How does the job market look for MSN educated nurse educators? I was only able to find 3 jobs in my area (population 500,000). I know that I would feel a great deal of personal accomplishment, but want to make sure it also makes financial sense.

Thanks in advance!

I think there will be an increased demand for nurse educators but from what I hear the pay is not good at all. Getting an FNP post grad certificate will open many doors. As health care continues to change and the nursing shortage increases FNPs will be in high demand. I attended but Aspen but withdrew due to time constraints. I think it's a great program but I couldn't balance the demands of a MSN program with kids, work, etc right now. Good luck in your decison.

MTSTEELHORSE is right the whole problem that is surrounding the furture of nursing is going to be the lack of nursing educators. There are simply not enough to educate the number of students that will be necessary to meet the demands of the looming nursing shortage crisis. Pay at the present is not that great for online educators but in brick and mortar institutions the pay and benefits are there.

I am currently enrolled at Aspen and have found the classwork to be challenging but worthwhile. I think that obtaining a Masters should not be a piece of cake if it is question the program. Aspen's cost cannot be beat at the present. The nice part about there program is when family issues strike you can step back deal with the issue and get back in the game.

Myself as an older nurse I want the flexibility to wind down and keep my hand in nursing This program will allow me to travel and teach onlne or pick up classes in my local universities.

I am an NP and I am here to tell you the job is stressful and in comparison to the responsibility and financial reimbursement it stinks. It is disappointing when RN's are making more that you do. So think about it and good luck in your decision.

I decided to request more information from Aspen. I'm currently in an online RN-BSN program that shall remain nameless since they don't seem to think I exist. No one ever writes me back and when I call all I get is voice mailboxes...and of course, when I do leave messages, no one calls me back either. And this isn't just a "I wrote Monday and it's Tuesday, why don't they reply?" issue...this is "I wrote last month, why don't they reply?"

The sad part is that I was in a fantastic in-person RN-BSN program prior to this one, but I had to withdraw from it and look for an online one due to moving to another state.

So I've decided it may be time to cut my losses and start checking out other online programs.

Aspen is very attentive to the needs of their students. I feel confident if you continue your education there you will not regret it. As with anything in life hard work has great payoff's. I have learned a lot throughout my time in the Aspen University program.

Well they did reply to my inquiry pretty fast...so did nameless online RN-BSN program :(

Though from what I've read they (Aspen) do have a great reputation...it's just a matter of determining if I am able to fit going straight for the masters' into life right now. Also, while nurse educator is nice, it's not really my #1 choice for a masters' (that would be psych/mental-health). Still, I could see myself teaching...

This program sounds amazing and VERY affordable. Thank you everyone for sharing!

I am considering starting the MSN program in May 2012 - any feedback would be appreciated from those of you already in or about to start the program. I would like to have a buddy or two online to regularly converse with on Facebook while we go through school. Please respond asap.

I am very interested in hearing from people in the program right now, and those that have finished it. How much time do you spend per week? How easy are is it to use the online format? I need to go back to school, but I am so overwhelmed with all of the options! I work nights, so an online program is ideal for me right now.

It appears they have had a VERY large tuition increase. Any updated thoughts on this program? Thanks!
