RN to MSN not giving BSN starting 9/1

I was informed AFTER paying tuition that starting with the 9/1 cohort will no longer give a BSN on the way to MSN despite being assured on multiple occasions throughout the acceptance process that I would be if i informed my academic mentor that I wanted that. I was told there are no appeals or grandfathering in. I just thought this should be put out there for any others considering WGU or starting on 9/1 who may not have been informed of this.

They apparently will now give a "certificate of completion" for the BSN portion but will not award an actual degree.

I am changing to RN to BSN and will likely pursue MSN elsewhere.

My enrollment lady told me that the completion certificate is awarded when the bsn is finished & both degrees are awarded at the end.

Yeah, I have no idea. But the thought that something could happen and the full program not be completed, but the BSN not awarded makes me angry. If I do the work, I want the degree....not two years later, but when it actually is completed.

Did the orientation open up to you?

I did orientation today. They held it for both RN-BSN and BSN students. School officially starts on the 20th. Not at the school you are talking about.

Wow, so glad I am only going for my BSN. If I decide later in life that I want my MSN, I will explore my options then, but for now...just the BSN.

Oh I am so sorry to hear this! This is a horrible change! I did receive BSN degree while in the MSN program and I wouldn't have signed up for the MSN program at the beginning if I had not been able to this. I knew that I needed to get the BSN and I know people that need them for work situations. How discouraging for you all!
