So after looking for RN jobs for a while in Southern California and not finding much, I have decided to look into long term cares and nursing homes. I am going to a LTC tomorrow to fill in an application and they informed me that i could have an interview right there and then. I haven't worked as an RN in CA yet and have never worked in an LTC/nursing home facility, so I am wondering what the average salary is? If they ask me in the interview how much pay I expect, what should I say? I am applying for a per diem position. Thank you!
Does anyone know what the average pay scale is for an RN in a LTC/nursing home facility? I have an interview tomorrow and not sure what to say when they ask what my expectations are for salary. This is my first time aplying o an LTC. This position is in Southern California.
Also, any interview tips for an LTC job? Thank you!

Actually, they sometimes do. It always surprises me a little. But we have had many threads that ask people how much they make and they usually garner a fair number of responses. It's interesting to see the variation by geography, size of city/town, specialty, etc.

Sure they do. Just take a good look at this thread:

But at this point (night before interview), the chances of finding a regionally-appropriate answer are slim.

I would just put negotiable if you can. It ranges even in Southern California quite a bit. I would think for Per Diem in So Cal you'd make high 30s at least?

This is right; I live in No. Ca, & I would ask for $40. That is reasonable to accept, so if you think you want to start high (to bargain) then, ask for $42. It is a number that sounds like you've given it some thought.

Its very easy to find. Look up the union RN contracts for that hospital. Seattle starts new grads around $27.00 and for my 12 years its $40.00 plus $2.70 more for evenings, $4.50 for nights and an extra $4.00 for weekends.
Nursing homes are always less, completely different nursing from hospitals.

Thanks everyone! Very helpful responses! It is true..job market is crazy out here in So Cal...still looking for jobs. The LTC actually decided that they can't afford to hire someone else:(
