RN Jobs for New Grads

Published

I had been an LPN for 5 years working Assisted Living. I have now graduated and passed boards but having a hard time finding a full time job. I start a casual job in a small ER this week. None of my local hospitals are hiring for med surg. Where do most new grads work?

now days it is hard to find job with experience so it is hard for new grad, i am gald at least you got something. keep trying things will get better and we will all get something that we are waiting for which is to work in the hospital

Its really rough out there. I have been actively searching for 5 weeks now, no one has called me with all the resumes I sent out. Its beginning to look very very grim.....but hang in there.

I have been looking for a job for over 3 months now. I hope this economy gets better soon!

Specializes in L&D, Maternal Fetal Medicine, LTC.

You said youd been an LPN for 5 years, are they taking into consideration your LPN experience when you apply for jobs? Or are you in the same boat as all the other RN New Grads? I will be in the same boat next summer, it will be 4 years experience as an LPN and will hopefully graduate in the Spring and take boards over the summer. Good luck with your job searching! :-D

I think your LPN experience should give you some benefit! Like the others had told you, its hard for a new grad...they want experience 1-2 years med/surge and most of them prefer BSN> I live in NY and I come across a lot of hospitals hiring people with experience. Anyway I really think you have a better chance of getting a job! you need to sell your self with the LPN experience. All I have is my summer externship experience of 2 month of L&D...and that's what I emphasize! So I have interview at OBGYN clinic. so use what you have , you will get a job. And also you need to contact agencies...you are like there dream. contact Whiteglove, metrostaffing league.....etc. Good luck

The market is bleak right now but should improve over the next year or two. There are many older nurses who are waiting for the economy to improve before they retire. Either waiting for their investments to improve or maybe their spouses are out of work. You are fortunate to have a casual position. My hospital won't hire casual call RN's without 2 yrs of experience. I'm working casual in an ER as a paramedic. I passed the boards in January. I'm doing almost the same job as the RN's but they don't call me an RN. They don't take my 18 years as a paramedic in to consideration. I know more than most of the new grads. I'm hoping if I prove I can do the job they will change my status. Good luck and hang in there. It will get better.

ive been looking for a job 3 months also and its so difficult to get one here. ive considered going out of my area but still waiting to see if i can get hired here first before branching out. i dont wanna sign a contract and then find out i got accepted to a hospital/facility in my area. I dont have any experience and considered volunteering in the mean time. Im at a lost. i wanna go back to school but I don't have any money to go back. Sometimes i think to myself, why now? when i tell me people i am a nurse with no job they look at me and say really? but youre a nurse. i just roll my eyes and walk away. just gotta hang in there and do what i have to do. just trying to think positive.
