  1. I know this is crazy to ask.....I may not even get a response.....but I would like to know how I can get in. I am a new grad and as you know its been terrible trying to find a job....I really want to work in OR....but I would be lucky to even find a job (anything) at this point.
  2. Honey I am not sure where in NY you live.....but there is a hiring freeze for all new grads! I live in the NYC. Trust me on this....I have a Bachelor's, license as a RN (pass my boards with 75 questions 1st time), graduate with all sorts of honors, and is a member of all sort of organization, did the internship thing etc....and there are no jobs......looking for a while.....there is a freeze and not until lifted, the hospitals nor nursing homes are not interested
  3. I am also a new grad who was offered a Float positions but just between the med surg floors no other specialty. I am not sure if this a great opportunity for me.....I know that many here are saying is not good for a new grad but the Unit manager told me that its wonderful experience for a new grad because of the wide range of nursing experiences. I get 3 months orientation and longer if needed. Please let me know your input.
  4. I just was offered a position as a "Med Surg Float Nurse". I am a new grad and this scares me. Is this something for a new grad. The orientation is for 3 months with a one on one preceptor. Is floating a good experience for me?!
  5. I am moving to Elmira to be an RN. I would like to know what are good areas. What are area codes to stay away from. I am looking in Horseheads, Elmira Heights....I would like to know what apartments are good near the hospital.
  6. sweetie to make matters worst ...don't believe the hype. New grads are not getting jobs out of school and most hospitals are cutting staff, and freezing hiring. Its sad because you may come out of school and it may well be a year before you obtain employment. I understand it cost 3000 dollars to train 1 grad and with all the cuts the hospitals are not willing to pay. Another thing is that with this new bill on healthcare for all...most hospitals are waiting it out....they want to see what will happen so if passes, they will cut nurses salary to save money. So if hospitals hire you now they have to pay you at what a nurse makes now and continue paying such, if they wait on the bill and it passes they start you at a cut in salary and it works for them. It is terrible but the media keep projecting this nonsense of shortage......for whom....do some research it will sadden you....the field is growing.....in 2016 the field will increase by 23%...and keeps growing the field is saturated and there is much politics involved.
  7. I am a second degree student. I had a BS in Legal Studies and then I pursue nursing....I went the BSN route because why peddle backwards. If you find a BSN program do it.....I use my first degree as leverage with all the liberal arts crap.....and then the BSN took me directly 2 years to complete.....most hospitals will ask for a BSN because of the current economy....its hard for nurses to find jobs....dont believe the hype of nursing shortage......if you look at the people right here(on this website) that have been searching for months to some a whole year before they pick something up ore still searching....its ridic. I am been searching for 3 months now to no avail....not even a call or an interview. You would think i was a terrible student.....far from the case.....I am about to go look for a paralegal position where I have experience because my expensive student loans will be due soon.....don't mean to scare you but think wisely each step because you are a family person.
  8. At least you guys are getting interviews! I get nothing! So be thankful! Interviewing is good experience!
  9. If you are of white race with a BSN try applying to NYP they will hire you. You will find some of the best positions there.... Its sad.....but the hospital is prejudice.....and sadly it works in the favor of what color your skin is.....so if you got it, use it to your advantage!
  10. I know this thread is old but couldn't help responding.....yes racism is alive and well. I just encountered the worst case of vivid racism ever....for the first time in my life....I cannot begin to tell how it hurts. And yes it occurred in the hospital and NYP......everyone keep telling me what a prejudice hospital it is and when you look at the ratio of nurses for blacks and white...especially in those very demanding fields, it is noted very clear.....I just wanted to be different and not listen to people and their excuses.....well it slammed in my face unexpectedly!
  11. Don't really know if the BSN will help....have one and in the same predic!!!
  12. This is honestly ridiculous. I want people from other countries to have opportunities.....but what about taking care of your own. We are educated and trained on American soil.......and we graduate only to be competing with this nonsense!!! All I can say is keep going to school......
  13. Its really rough out there. I have been actively searching for 5 weeks now, no one has called me with all the resumes I sent out. Its beginning to look very very grim.....but hang in there.
  14. Ok "run" maybe too harsh...so just walk very slow. I did some research and found out that there is not much of a shortage as the hype has created! Do your research!.....its a little scary and when you are like me that put my first career on the line....it seems a little hopeless.....
  15. All I can say is RUN...choose something else. There is a hype about this field that is simply false advertising!
