  1. There are the usual questions: -What would you do if you seen another staff abusing a pt? -How would you handle a situation where you and I co-worker had a serious disagreement? -Where do you see yourself in 5 yrs -What are your strengths? -What would you say are some of your weaknesses? I can handle these. The one question I could use some advice on is: "I notice you said we may not contact your manager for the period when you were at __________. May I ask why that is?" I know they say never speak badly of a past employer in an interview. But when you have ten good references from your carreer, and one manager who you felt had it "in-for-you" and several of your co-workers have been quoted as saying, that manger seems to have it 'in-for-you'....what do you do? At this point, I think the best answer would be: "that manger does not wish to be used as a reference - but I can give you ten other references if you like"
  2. Hi I enjoyed the posts re: Tele Advice Nursing Ive been in the field for three years in Vancouver Canada, serving a large public population. I really am going to miss my position as Telenurse here. I am moving to Southern Cal to be closer to my girlfriend there Ive tried Kaiser's site for tele nursing but dont see much at the moment Id rather continue working in the same field, eventually going to work-from home. Can you help me with any leads to contact info of such facilities hiring in southern Cal? Thank you

  6. California Issue you a temporary license, which is good for (6months?) or until you get your SSN. And You get a SSN from your employer. I'm not exactly sure how long it takes, not too long - from what Ive been reading. You can get a person at the Cali Board of Nursing ... "IF" you are calling them 8AM Cali Time, other wise there is a good chance you will be on the phone a long time on hold. I heard Northern Cal offers a lot better wages than Socal. thats great if you land an area in The Bay. Im going to Socal, either LA county or OC, cause my lady is there. We would also like to go to Santa Barbara or Sandiego. Keep us posted on your job offers, how are you going about it? all by yourself? a recruiter? Travel Nursing organization?
  7. Although generally, for most forms CGFNS received of mine, they would post shortly after receiving it that it was either received, reviewed and/or accepted. A neat little service of theirs. However' there was one particular transcript that seemed to delay everything - and it was making me nervous. Originally I regreted paying extra for speedy courier service - to get all my documents to them quickly... But, in hindsight, I was glad, as it allowed me to track the progrees of the letters. Per UPS tracking, I was able to see that CGFNS Received the above transcript...and time was ticking away. So after several emails to them. I wasnt sure what to do. I emailed them and offered explanations that may help with the acceptance of the last document. As my degree involved 2 institutions (College transfer to University). Of course, it was hard to get a response from them. I even let them know that I know they got the transcript via UPS tracking. So after a few emails (trying to restrain myself in the emails), I didnt know what more to do - or how long it would take. Then all of a sudden...It came! Exactly one month after they received it. It just seemed odd - that this letter took so long for them to mention they received it (let a alone reviewed it), when every other document was received / reviewed quite promptly. I honestly dont know how they go about their business there. Im only glad things have come through. So. if youre saying its nearly 2 months and they have everything - and are sitting on it...definately try contacting them. I think they do have a phone number also. Hmmmm: Did your schools institutions send out the documents? Are they slow in getting them out? (busy time - start of their school years) Did they send them ground. air or express (usulally a few you have to pay for). One school of mine had no such option, So I provided them a pre-paid pre-addressed courier letter to send my document to CGFNS. Does the person in their office only do this once a week or somthing like that? Well, keep us posted on how it goes. Thanks for the tips on vehicle. I can get most of those papers, no prob (costs though). My vehicle meets federal standards etc - no prob. Im not sure if it will meet the california emissions standards - i think it will pass the smog test, but does not have any such "california EPA equivalent" sticker. Im wondering if being I am a visitor from out of state/country, I can use my vehicle for a year or so. If there is some kind of clause. I will call the DMV etc see what they say. I also have another concern on my mind. I have a girlfriend there in the US. Im sure customs knows all my monthly visits have been to her (as they ask each time). I wonder if they may be thinking I may be trying to immigrate or somthing like that. When I will be going through on the TN Visa
  8. True True: (re: the diversity mix) Retrogression? Are you refering to the freeze on Employer sponsored Green Cards? (HB1? Visas?) Retrogression should'nt affect TN Visas Should it?
  9. Im a Canadian RN New to The USA Nursing Job Market. One thing that really caught my attention, was on all the application forms. Most Hospitals will have a generous section pertaining to your Ethnicity or Race. I can remember in Canada when questions like these stopped appearing on applications, as it had no purpose - other than the possibility to discriminate. Can anyone shed some light as to why the US (One of the supposedly world leaders) is still engaged in this practice? Is there some logic to it? Is it a Pro or Con to place a check in the box (if provided): "Rather not answer" Anyone from other countries care to comment on similar trends in their country?
  10. Approximately 3 months to get Visascreen. -June 16 2008 Applied for Minnesota License -July 17 2008 Paid an extra 150 to Write NCLEX to Write in CANADA -July 21 2008 Wrote NCLEX -July 22 2008 Received Results Pass via website (Extra fee- of course) Received Minnesota license -July 27 2008 Apply to CGFNS (Visa Screen) -Aug 8 2008 Sent application for License to California via endorsement from Minnesota -Aug 8 2008 Application NURSYS/NCSBC Application for electronic verification of licenses (faster than paper). -Aug 12 2008 "Livescan" fingerprints, While on a visit in California...(Paper fingerprints take a lot longer - maybe months) -Sept 14 2008 Received temporary California License in Mail -Sept 18 2008 Received email from CGFNS (VisaScreen) wanting verification of my address (I hope this means they are mailing my successful VisaScreen) (logged into their website to see that they now finally received the last document of many needed - and all have been reviewed and are adequate - This is a neat feature they have) In and amongst all of the above is Mailing (more often couriering - as it is faster - but more expensive) Verifications of licenses from various Boards and transcripts etc. If Visa-screen comes in the mail this week, it will be just a little over 3 months from beginning of very first application for Licensure. Keeping in mind that every single form any party wanted was provided ASAP following or with applications. I would like to add that this website was instrumental in providing me with tips on how to go about all this paper work/application. I also consulted with a Nurse Recruitment Company and Travel Nurse Company - neither of which I have signed with but both were nice enough to give advice on how to go about the process. Well - I have been speaking with a few hospitals / HR, and will continue to do so. The one major obstacle I have now is: regarding moving to US. Specifically "Automobile" Not sure if it is easier to transfer my vehicle information (reg / insurance) Down in Cali, Or to just sell my vehicle in Canada and buy an American vehicle when I get down there. Ive heard there is a tonne of paper work involved when owning a foreign vehicle in the US. I know I need to sell this vehicle anyways, it is a V8 4X4, an endangered species in today's world of gas prices.

  12. Thanks once again for the Reply Suzanne: That was very interesting, and also very settling.
  13. I am curious to know if they are only interested in the Main Schools I attended (i.e. High school) or every other little night class or upgrading class I ever took. I have no problem listing all such schools - But is the bloat just going to create more work for verification and thus more of a hold up on my Visa Screen? Are They wanting the current names of the school or the name of the school when I attended (It has been 20 yrs, and some schools change name/service/or disappear altogether) Anybody have any experience in this regard?
  14. After getting into page 4 of the 15 page document, I am Flabergasted....They want the dates of the schools I intended in Elementary/Primary school. unbelievable!
  15. Thank you Suzzane: THat seems to be the concensus...endorsement to california can actually be a quick process, applying for temporary license initially. I travel to california quite often and while there may use the "live scan" method of figerprinting to speed up the process further.
