Hi,
I am a new grad RN in Toronto and I am willing to relocate to Alberta as getting RN jobs in hospitals in Toronto is almost impossible. I have a perioperative RPN certificate and more than 2 years of RPN experience in Toronto. I know that I need to transfer my RN licence to Alberta. I was told that many rural communities in Alberta need RNs. Is that true? How long does it take to get a full-time RN position in Alberta? Unfortunately, I have never been to Alberta and I am really interested in exploring a new province as a RN. Any suggestions/heads-ups appreciated.
Thank you,

Yes, getting into Toronto hospitals is difficult unless you did preceptor-ship there but if you are ready to work in LTC/Home Care outside GTA there are opportunities. I just got two casual offers outside GTA. I doubt Alberta hospitals will have any more jobs than Toronto hospitals for new grads. So if planning to go Rural Alberta, you might consider Rural Ontario first since you already have licence here. Just my 2 cents.

AB has been cutting jobs and laying people off for two years. More position eliminations will continue throughout the Province as "workforce transformation" takes effect. This is an absolute certainty.
Rural areas are usually hiring temp or casual. Do not move without an offer in place. If you do manage to get hired in a city, be aware that last in is first out. In other words, without seniority you can be bumped out of your position.
Search the site because many threads exist about the job climate in AB.

I love how people are "willing" to consider moving to Alberta. We're not exactly the back of beyond and we do live in the 21st century

If you are willing to work med/surg, home care, or psych you should be able to find a position in AB.
Hi.
I got three hospital interviews in the GTA, super excited about to start my orientation. Thanks for all your support!

Hi, I'm a new grad as well and have been looking for a job for what seems like forever. I've been applying to every job posting in Ontario and have one experienced nurse friend that got me in contact with her old manager but nothing came out of it.
Do you have any tips you could share on how to get an interview? Any help is much appreciated!
