RN-BSN-NP

hi everyone,

ok firstly, is this the way the path of degrees go? RN-Bsn- np - assuming that eventually i want to be Nurse practitioner?

second of all, right now im getting pre reqs that can be transferred to NS

here's my question: i need a A&P for NS,which im hoping to take and transfer. however, i was wondering what are the courses you need to take for the BSN, regular courses or specific nursing ones or a combo? for example, if i take bio now, can that be used for the BSN, technically speaking?

thanks

All the course requirements and such for a RN-BSN bridge program will really depend on where you go to get your BSN. The RN-BSN program I am attending has no additional general science or general ed requirements, just core nursing classes, but many programs do have gen ed requirements. I would shop around, you'll be surprised how classes and requirements will vary from program to program.

Like ChristineN said, it really does depend on your school so I would research their curriculum guides for their nursing programs. Make sure that your pre-req classes can be transferred to the NS that you will be going to, because some classes will not transfer! At my school, we have "co-requisite" classes - these were A&P I & II (that is being changed to a pre-req starting Fall 2009) & Science of Nutrition. Everything else are core nursing classes and gen-ed requirements.

oh i know it depends on the school. ;)

was wondering about the general curriculum that schools usually have. :wink2:

if i would gain in the long run or be "wasting" time, effort and $ if i do it now or that its needed for general degree :)

....will do!

thanks shrimpchips and ChristineN

When I was working on pre-req's, I had also considered starting on gen ed classes for a BSN. Now that I'm in a RN-BSN prgram, I'm so glad I didn't, it would have been a complete waste of my money, and they wouldn't have counted for anything!

I am doing my RN program now (2 year, ADN) and the NP program I'm looking into skips the Bachelor's. It's a 3 year MSN program.
