RN to BSN: Looking for an online RN program quick

Published

Hey everyone! Looking for an online RN program quick. Need to be in by January. Here's the thing: I do not graduate from my Associates until December, so I need a school that will accept you before you are licensed. They are out there, but hard to find. Second, I perfer to get it done in one year, with minimal prereqs. If there are some courses required, I need to know if I can take them at the same time as I am taking the course. Also do they accept clep courses? I have the following:

A&P 1 and 2

Micro

Nutrition

English I

Gen psych

Chemistry

Sociology

Life span and develop

Computer course (general--not sure, did powerpoint and excel)

US history since 1876

Thats it. SO if ANYONE can help me get the best results---please do so!!

Double check the OP. She wants an online program. That's the difference.

Yes, the one I referred that I went too was local for me but all on-line.

Were they accepted into the program even before they graduated with their ASN too?

I think most of these were students who had graduated but were working on their temporary practice permit and had not taken their RN boards yet. In the particular state I lived in at the time new nurse's had 1 year to take boards.

The program that ChristineN was talking about intrigued me... so I went looking. It does appear to be all online, but specifically states:

Applicant must:

  • Provide RN license number and a copy of current license

Definitely something for me to keep in mind, though. Thanks, ChristineN! :)

Perhaps the requirements changed, but I know when I went you could start the first semester with out having a RN. I remember thinking about it, but did not want to have new grad orientation to worry about on top about.

Penn State | Online Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to B.S.) | Course List is Penn State's course list for RN to BSRN online. Other programs are probably similar. Look at as many online curricula as you can, and work off the Gen Ed courses that seem common to all. Gen Ed courses could be done as a part time nondegree student, then transferred in, I presume. Most colleges used to require you to take 30 credits minimum from them to get a BS/BA degree from them.

I can get into my local universities RN-BSN program before I get licensed, but that's only because of a partnership my school has with them. And it will take less than a year.

For my program you would be missing the following courses, all of which should be able to be completed before getting into the program:

Physiological Chemistry

Stats 1

Eng Comp 2

A Literature course

A Fine Art or Humanities course

A social science elective

The only course I could CLEP on that list would be the Physiological Chemistry.

I saw someone else posted possible courses needed, maybe these can give you an idea so you can get a head start while deciding on an online school.

Specializes in Legal, Ortho, Rehab.
The RN Learning Center in Los Angeles may actually fit your requirements.

Love it! LOL:yeah:

I didn't ask for anyone to be rude. Some of you act like you haven't been a little confused sometimes yourselves. Some of you act like you have never been nursing school students either. I didn't realize my comment posted twice, because the first time I posted it, I had used my iphone to do so and didn't think it went through, and to anyone who has an iphone, you know how they can act up sometimes. Also, I am a new user and have NEVER joined any blogs or posts. And now I know why. Some of you say I was being rude, your comments were rude. No one was looking for anyone to do "my work" just thought since some of y'all are experienced you may have an idea for me. Sorry for asking for your help. To those who posted helpful comments, thank you and bless you. I am glad some people realize these blogs are here to help people.

Asystole-I am a single mother with two small kids, trying to do better for myself and kids. Maybe what I am asking for is a lot, but is it so bad to try to do better? And the programs do exist. I am willing to do what it takes to get into any of them period. If I need one more semester so be it. I am just trying to do it as quickly as possible.
