Riverside School of Health Careers RN program

Published

Hello everyone!

I am looking for current, past, and even prospective students for Riverside's RN program. I will be applying for the September 2013 professional nursing program. For current or past students, what was your GPA and teas score? Also how was the program, instructors, clinicals? I did attend the last open house in December and I was hoping that a student or recent grad would be there to talk about their experience. I love how the instructors seem to be really supportive and the small campus also appealed to me. To other prospective students what start date are you applying to and do you have any other nursing/healthcare experience? Any advice or other information on the program is greatly appreciated!

I thought you were taking it today???

I was but I had finals last week which left me with no time to study plus I knew we were going to have a busy weekend at work and I was stressing out about not studying and wanting to do well so I told her I needed to reschedule it lol. I have ample time to prepare this week!

That's the spirit! Were you able to get a hold of the ATI study manual to help with your review?

Yes!! From the moment I opened the book I knew why I got some of the questions wrong lol it's a really good book to study from.

Ohhhh ok! Well you will do good :) the study book is a huge help!

Thanks! And good luck on your interview

Thank you! I'm curious as to what it will be like! She said it'll only be 10-15 minutes

I think they ask you stuff like what qualities should a nurse posses and stuff like that.

If you want to work in the hospital in pediatrics, don't do the LPN program, no hospitals in the Hampton Roads area hires LPN's. BUT, if you want to work in a pediatric doctors office, you have a chance. Work on your pre-requisites and do the RN program. Also, all the RN's I spoke to yesterday went to school at Riverside and were very happy with the education they received.[/quote']

That's not true, CHKD, Sentara, and the other area hospital's do hire LPN'S, we just hired 3 in our dept. I don't know why people are saying LPN'S are being phased out when they are not.

I have been emailing the local hospital nurse recruiters asking who they hire, because I am planning my education. This is the reply from CHKD.

"Thanks for your interest in our hospital. I can’t speak with other hospital systems, but here at CHKD, we hire LPN’s for jobs in our specialty clinics and doctor’s offices, but not for the in-patient or hospital areas. We only have RN’s working on the floors. As for a BSN, that is the preferred education. We do hire nurses with only their Associates Degree ( from community colleges) but most of those nurses have a few years of valuable experience.

If I were advising you, I would chose to attend a school with a BSN. We are fortunate to have several excellent programs locally, as well as great schools throughout Virginia."

So while the hospital system will hire LPN's for the clinics and doctors offices, they are not hired for the in-patient and hospital floors.

Riverside is the same way, they will hire LPN's for long term care and outpatient clinics.

Where do you work? I am waiting to hear if I got accepted into the LPN program, and would love to be on a unit in a hospital.

I agree! When I first visited the school and sat down with the recruiter he told me the interview questions would be similar to the essay questions. Even though you unsure of the questions to expect, at least you know it will be straightforward and to the point.

The closer it gets, the more nervous I get. Two days!

Take some deep breaths and say a prayer...you will do well. Is it in the morning or afternoon?

Ft. Eustis in Newport News also hires LPNs I volunteer there a few days a week and the family health clinic and PEDS are full of LPNs
