Hello everyone. I just wanted to start the thread for all the new applicants of RCC's Nursing Program for Spring 2014. This thread is to help each other stay current with old and new information about the program. Share your thoughts about the application process, teas V preparation, acceptance, and support group. Let the applications begin!!
I want to apply for RCC's nursing program. Just wanted to know how do they calculate for the pre-requisites. I took some of them over to improve the grade and also for recency issues, does anyone know how they calculate those grades? Also, if you didn't take the pre-requisites there, you have to go to a counselor to get them evaluated? Any information would be great!

Hello! You can click on this link http://www.rcc.edu/departments/schoolofnursing/Documents/Enrollment/SchoolOfNursingInfoWorkshop.pdf for an overview of the point system that RCC uses.
You can also click here to view the workshop schedule for nursing school. Here any questions will be answered. http://www.rcc.edu/departments/schoolofnursing/Documents/WorkshopDates.pdf
There are two GPA point categories: Science Pre-reqs and General Ed.
Your science GPA pre-reqs are calculated by: Microbiology, Human Anatomy and Human Physiology.
Your pre-reqs are calculated by your General ed category which are these six courses: English Comp, History or Political Science, Communication, Critical thinking or math(Intermediate algebra or higher), Developmental Psychology, and any Humanities/Arts course.
You can retake any of your general ed, and the higher grade will be used. For example, if you got a "B" in history, and an "A" in Political Science, you can use that "A".
The only general ed you cannot retake is English Composition and Develop Psych, because is only one course for that category.. I would go to counselor just to make sure that each course is equivalent and up to date. As far as your sciences, they must be taken within the previous five years. I am not sure about general ed though. You can make an appointment and have your transcripts evaluated.
I hope I helped a bit :) Feel free to ask any more questions. Good luck! :)
Just to add to that, the good thing is the sciences do not have an expiration date for RCC. So you could of taken them 6 years ago, and if you apply to RCC's program they still count. Can't say for any other nursing program in the region though: )Hello!
