How about the patient right to have meds managed BY A NURSE?

I say this after reading one thread tonight regarding a movement to have CNA/CMA/UAP pass meds without having any nursing judgement, just a brief orientation/training period.

Yes, I think a patient has A RIGHT to safe med administration.

What do you think? Should this be a patient right?

Sorry all you Cna's out there, but with all the stuff we have to go thru in school about meds, I agree that that the patient has the right to have meds managed by a nurse.

The CNA's in the facilities I've been in aren't allowed to pass meds. I'm surprised they can in other places?!?

That's a good way to remember them! Even though we didn't have to know them in order, I still found myself forgetting some of them. :stone Thanks for the witty nmonic (sp).

The way different places do things differently is so interesting :)

We don't have anything about documentation, which you would think would be a given. The sixth right here is right clinical scenario - in other words, withhold antihypertensive if the BP is low etc

We were taught "right technique" (as in injecting at correct angle etc)...interesting to see all the other ideas out there!

DOCUMENTATION

That is what we were taught.
