6 right in administering meds

I know I should know this, but I am missing one, can someone help me. I have: "right :patient,time,drug,route and dose" what is the 6th one please?

We were taught 6 also and the 6th is documentation3_3_3.gif

I would guess that Documentation is the 6th - they keep drilling into us:

"If it wasn't documented - it didn't happen!"

the sixth one is right documentation--they are called the 5 rights pluse one!!!!! let me know if it works out for you!!!:)

We were taught five rights, and I use "triple D, CRT"

We talk of only 5 as well - but this has been very interesting with some very good extras thrown in.

I'm surprised there are so many variations on the 6th (and then some), and as it was pointed out I am glad to see the other good points.

With that having been said, I guess this thread doesn't help the OP that much then :p

The 6th right I learned was right REASON. In other words.. you may not give tylenol ordered for a fever if the pt. has a headache. This is th 6th right my hospital teaches as well. That one is new.. there were only 5 when I started NS 1 1/2 years ago. ;o) Documentation did not pertain to the administration of the med per se (though it is an additional 7th "right" so to speak). The other 6 do.

We always say there are 7...right to information and righ to refuse are the last two. It was wicked confusing though but each book/instructor said something different. It was and still is annoying to me. lol
