So we just had an exam on basic pt care and therapeutic communication. One of the questions was:
An elderly male post-operative patient is unable to void in the supine position. What is the most appropriate nursing intervention?
a)assist the patient to a standing position
b)ask the patient's wife to assist with the urinal
c)tell the patient he cannot leave the hospital until he voids
d)pour cold water over his genitals
For serious? Share some of your stupidest test questions!
Okay, I think maybe I didn't make my point clear enough... Options a-c aren't really the issue (the answer turned out to be a)
who in God's name would ever think POURING COLD WATER ON HIS GENITALS was a good idea! Haha funny! Joke, wheee, humorous thread...
Nevermind, maybe I'm just weird...

It's like reading on the side of the suppository box "Not for oral administration". Someone will try it - or in this case, think that answer is OK!
LOL! Thanks for the chuckle.
Reminds me of when I was in A+P I during one of our lab practicals there was a marker on the testes and it just said " Name the structure marked". We were during endocrine at the time so you'd think most people would have gotten that right. Well anyway when she handed back the tests she said " You would not BELIEVE some of the answers I got for this". Later I found out some of the " answers" included " balls" and " kidneys". " kidneys" was from a GUY.

I would have thought an option involving cranking the bed up a bit would have been included. Am I right? Who wants to stand a pt up right after surgery?
