Oh wow- I will have to watch this. I am from Chicago, and was 11 when this happened.
Later in life, I worked with the mother of one of the victims (she was our unit secretary). And a close friend's mother was the nurse who cared for Speck in the ER in Joliet when he died. I always found it ironic that the last face he ever saw was that of a nurse.
It is gratifying to hear that Corazon has overcome this horrific tragedy and had a useful and productive life.

Anyone into the Netflix series Mindhunters might have seen the episode about the interview of Richard Speck. In 1966 Speck massacred 8 student nurses. Corazon Amurao Atienza was the lone surviving student, who went on to become a nurse and have children and grandchildren. She survived by hiding under the bed, while one by one her classmates were killed.
The Netflix series is awesome. It is about the infancy of the behavioral analysis unit of the FBI in the 1970s. The story about this nurse is inspiring.
