Retrogression!!!

There a few that will be made available, so few that they will not even be posted. Chances are very slim to get one if you add in the number of dependents that are included with the RN. If you get one, great....but do not put any hope into it. We are talking of perhaps a few hundred.

With an October completion date, it will be almost impossible, if not definitely impossible. There are many more ahead of you waiting and with much earlier PD dates.

This is Ann H Husband so please excuse me if I have got this all wrong but after reading this thread it makes more sense to me than anything Ann has been saying:

Retrogression means they have stopped the category 'A' visa that a RN Nurse was privileged to get and regrouped the nurse with another category visa.

So instead of taking 3 years this visa takes 4+ years so when they say to Ann they are working on 2002 priority dates that is exactly what they mean, so Ann who is 2006 I think will have to wait approx 4 years depending on where in 2002 they are.

If she is lucky they may if they feel like it issue some more category 'A' visa but they might not who know's nobody probably.

So my take on this is if the USA is desperate for nurses then congress should get its act together and sort it.

But Congress like Parliament in the UK is full of politicians who play at politics and not what we the people think makes sense.

So my take on this is forget the USA (Easy for me to say I haven't done the studying) if they don't make it a sensible process - go somewhere else it's a big world. :idea:

Can anybody advise on if Canada accepts the USA nursing exams?

Ann was looking at the Virgin Islands but I don't think there is much there but happy to be told different.

Any advise on New Zealand, Australia or other interesting English speaking countries not the UK as we are here already (Lousy weather as usual).

If I have got the statement correct at the beginning of this rant then sorry nurse but get your head out of the sand and move on (it will be the USA that loses out in the end).

We will defiantly not wait more than 6 months and I have said too Ann we need to make up our minds in 4 months time where we go or if we stay in the UK.

Ann will probably tell me off for interfering but I thank you ladies for reading my rant and would love to hear your comments.:chair:

Hi,

I know exactly how you feel regarding the delays in getting to the US, and yes you are right in what you say about retrogression. I have worked in Australia and started the process to get to the US 2 and a half years ago and am stuck now in retrogression, so hubby and I just decided to go back to Oz instead as the process is so simple and quick compared to the US. Around 4-5 months from start to actually boarding a plane to get there. We leave on Saturday. PM me if you want to know more. Good luck

The US is not that short of nurses. They wish to focus on training nurses here. Intil a couple of years ago when the Schedule A came into effect, there was not a speedy way to get a visa to the US, there were temporary work visas that were a nighmare for all around.

There are many that wish to work in the US and are willing to wait to get here.

Canada does not accept any of the documentation or exams that are done for the US, they have their own licensing process. Canada also has cold weather in the winter.

I expect something to open up this summer, but cannot tell you when.

When was her priority date in 2006, and does she have a completed file now? Or where in the process is she? This is something that should be taken up with the agency that she is with. If early 2006, she should have been in the US already.

Dont know date but she was file complete I think late Oct or Erl Nov.

This rummoor about something happening is what has made us wait a while but we are fed of living in expensive and not great rented accomadation so we will decide in a few months.

Canada is cold but at least our FL home is just 3 hours away and I have been offerd work and visas in 3 months for Canada.

Where do you get your info you are very good.

Retrogression for EB3 visas has occured before 2000 and then EB3 became current until January 2005 where visas for EB3 were exhausted. By May 2005, Bush signed a law that recaptured 50,000 visas for Schedule A which is a category under EB3. Retrogression is looming again because alot of that 50,000 visas were used already. We just hope that the US congress will pass measure on this. From my own standpoint, nothing can be done for now because it is election time here in the US and we will just have to wait for the next congress to act on it.
As for now, nobody is lobbying at the congress for additional visas and if there is no lobbying congress won't think its an issue. Remember that in 2005, there was lobbying made by the American Hospital Association that is why the retrogression lasted only for 5 months.

thanks. thanks alot silver..so does that mean, even i get the chance to get a tourist visa for the us and leave by this year and say from there il take the nclex and wen passed it, i cant get a job or apply for a job and stay there for good?...

Tell him that Canada is very cold in the winter, and he owuld have to love the snow and shoveling it in the am......

Thank you for the lovely note. And Canada is freezing this time of year. Unusually cold this winter in most areas. They even had snow in the mountains around San Diego last week.
