Hi, everyone. I have to resign a new grad position right before the orientation. My family is too worried that the area has high crime rate and I will be living all by myself far away from anyone I know.
I have another job offer in a very safe nice neighborhood, so my family wants me to take this offer instead. I also like their program as well.
How do I do this?? I am so scared that the unit manager will complain to my nursing school or stop hire nursing students from my school. I have heard of stories like that. I'm also concerned that I might be working with those people somewhere.. Please help me. I'm not sure how to do this right.

Submit a 30-day notice of resignation. Submit it as soon as possible so management at your current workplace can make other arrangements.
In all likelihood, your current workplace will accept the resignation and relieve you of your duties since they are unlikely to spend money orienting an applicant who will not stick around.

I agree; resign with the expected amount of notice. They will probably cut you loose and not make you serve the notice, since it is just a waste of money to orient you and they will want to get someone into your slot in the new grad program who actually wants to work for them and will stick around.

Be gracious and honest. They will understand.
