:nurse: I all,

I'm a 2.5 year old nurse. I would like to try travel nursing. Don't want All About Staffing. Has anyone worked with Nurses in Partnership? In some rating websites it has been rated highly and with excellent benefits. I reside in Florida but would like to contract with hospitals outside of Florida that will treat travel nurses half way decent (I've heard from travel nurses that most don't even do that). I'm seeking a contract in my preferred states -Tennessee, Kentucky, either of the Carolinas, Virginia, Texas

Anyone out there have a good experience with hospitals in these states? If so, which ones

Thanks!

I am currently working a travel assignment in Virginia near Richmond, but have worked in NC, and NE and have NC, CA, and FL RN licenses. You should submit all your paperwork to about 2-3 agencies so when one contract comes to an end you can easily transition into another job with another company if need be. I travel with Trinity and have really loved working with them. I will say that the HCA hospitals hear use All About Staffing here to get in touch with the travel companies, so if you got an HCA job the travel company might use them but you would ever know.

Look at this: http://www.highwayhypodermics.com/travel_nursing_companies.htm

It shows tons of travel companies and their benefits. I notice that you say that you are in FL, which could be a problem since it isn't in the compact. If you want to travel to you might want to start the licensure process early so you aren't waiting for a piece of paper. Travel companies won't submit you for a job until you have this so select a state, get the license and then travel. It isn't cheap either, so choose your state wisely. Notice, I have 2 state licenses I haven't even gotten around to using, but it takes forever (sometimes months :uhoh3:) to get them in these two states so better to have than to wait.

Hope this helps, feel free to contact me if you have other questions.

I agree, pick a state and get the license process started!

Great advise! Thanks Travelswithmutt! :yeah:

I am with American Mobile and in Naples, FL on a unit that is basically all travelers only open for the season. I haven't had any problems with them, and if I have it has been resovled very quickly. I would recommend them, and I know they go to other states. Good luck!

This is great advice cause I want to travel in june to fl. I currently live in pa. I am afraid to leave my job in pa for a fl job cause pa pays more. What are your thoughts

Great advise! Thanks Travelswithmutt! :yeah:

What company do you travel with for jobs in VA - that's where I want to work!!!

I currently reside in Florida, but I would like to do travel nursing in New York. What steps do I need to take to apply for a RN license in NY? Does anyone know the fees?

NY BON website.

Hi I am a travel nurse with almost 3 years nursing experienced in NICU and 8 months as a travel RN (3 contracts thus far, all in TX). I started initially working with TaleMed (as recommended by Highway Hypodermics) and I had a terrible experience. My recruiter payed little interest in me and my pay checks were often incorrect and my housing was terrible. My first contract was at an HCA hospital, but I was going through TaleMed as my agency. I talked with another traveler at the same facility who was working through All about Staffing (now called Parallon). I have been really happy with my recruiter and my experience with Parallon. I haven't had many issues with payroll, and if I do my recruiter works to resolve them right away. If you work at an HCA facility, I do recommend going through Parallon because you will get the highest pay that way, and really me experience has been good. So good luck

Again, HCA owns Parallon. While working directly for Parallon is indeed the best way to work steady at HCA, they will never pay you as much for rapid response assignments. If they can't fill in-house, or with low ball agencies, they have to step up and pay more to agencies.

Unfortunately travel nurse agencies have saturated the market, which makes it daunting when faced with the decision of actually choosing one for your first assignment. Like one poster above mentioned, Talemed, which is rated very highly by Highway Hypodermics, was a horrible agency in her experience. Just do your homework to the best of your ability and go with the majority and be aware that there is still a chance things can go haywire. I've done lots of research on this topic and it seems the same top 5 agencies keep popping up on different websites. They are Premier Healthcare Systems, PRCS Healthcare, FlexCare Medical Staffing, Innovative Placements INC., and Trinity Healthcare Staffing. I'm in the process of interviewing with three of them and will make my decision soon as to which one I will go with. I personally would not get my license prematurely as the more flexible you are with your destination choice, the more valuable you are to the agency. Once a destination is determined, then they will help you gain your licensure in that state. Lastly, go with your gut feeling! If you feel like the recruiter you are working with is giving you the run around, move on to another agency. If when you read your finalized contract, it doesn't make sense, make sure you get it explained. And if it still doesn't seem "right." Do no sign, move on to another agency. In other words, trust your instincts because they usually never steer us wrong. Good luck!
