has anyone enrolled in the inaugural Accelerated BSN class that started january 2009? what are your impressions so far?

thank you,

I think you would be lucky to make it in 30 minutes from downtown. The traffic around here is awful, especially around rush hour. You guys are going to be on a 9-5 schedule too for the most part. We have a girl who lives downtown, and she hates it. My advice is to get somewhere close to school. Also, the class ahead of you will be supplying you with recommended housing at orientation.

I plan to live in altamonte springs at Tiffany Oaks (2 red lights from I-4). I also looked around maitland and longwood. Tiff Oaks is about 20 min from Rem. and 30 min from Orlando on good traffic days. Baldwin Park is expensive and not convenient to I-4. I used to live there. It is gorgeous tho! I'm just so happy to be here!

My husband and I decided to live in Baldwin Park based on our online search while in California. I figure that taking the 408 to bypass the downtown Orlando traffic and then taking the 4 will cut the driving time. I also took into consideration the commute to clinicals which will be held in the Orlando area. We will see how that works out since tomorrow I get to drive to orientation :)

Hi G Lo, yes they did a lot of work on the 408 and I4 traffic seems much better. I hope your drive goes well. It's a lot better than 3-4 years ago. Also 417 may be a fast as well. It may be more miles but traffic may be easier, thus, faster - not sure. Was always fast for me past the UCF exit. From Baldwin Park, I used to go the back way to get to Fairbanks and catch I4 there. There is a school or 2 on the way so Im not sure how that traffic is at peak times.

I was very curious about this. I wondered if other schools (not necessarily those in Florida, just other schools in general) would accept me into their graduate programs after I receive my BSN from RCON. So I checked the University of Florida website and it says that they "must have a B.S.N degree from a nationally accredited program". Does this mean that I would be able to apply (and potentially be accepted by) UF? This is a huge deal to me because I plan on furthering my education, and if I will only be exempt from a few programs that have specific requirements, it's not the end of the world.

Yes. UCF is the only school that, currently, does not "recognize" RCON's bachelor's degree....UF, and EVERY OTHER school recognizes it :)

I believe that if a program is nationally accredited then any other nationally accredited school will accept the credits. Both Reminton and UCF are CCNE accredited so I don't understand why they would not take the credits. Even if a few schools will not take the credits there are always others that will, if there are none in your area and you cannot move there are online MSN programs.

I think you can have the same problems with a regionally accredited school if you plan on moving to another state or even attempt to go to a nationally accredited MSN program. Also, this is a second degree program, I have found some MSN programs that only require a science bachelors and an RN for admittance.

It is believed that UCF doesnt "recognize" RCON's degree...bc they see RCON as a competitor...in that UCF was the ONLY BSN degree program in central FL...until RCON opened.

Many people have jobs now, all across the country...having graduated from RCON...

Wow. REALLY wish I would've known that. UCF made it sound like no university would accept the credits...ugh.

Of-course they did, lol!

Ohhhh Nooooo THANKS!!! I do not have time and money to waste at RCON. I called few places last week and UNFORTUNATELY, they would NOT recognize RCON, as an real Bachelor's and Nursing degree. Look like they have huge problems with their regionally accredations!!! I would like to go real BSN school(by this I mean is both nationally and regionally accredited BSN school). I wanna be real RN and I do not have time with games.... Good luck everyone!!!!!:eek::eek:

Graduates from RCON are "real" nurses. By going to another school, you won't be anymore "real" than the rest of us. Just because they aren't regionally accredited doesn't mean you can't sit for the NCLEX. Perhaps most Florida schools won't accept RCON into their graduate programs due to the regional accreditation, but why are you only limiting yourself to those schools for your master's? The majority of out-of-state schools don't care as long as you have a BSN and passed the NCLEX. Not to mention, most of these programs are online. If I'm not mistaken, University of Miami accepts RCON students.

If your ignorance wasn't so apparent, I might would be offended by your remarks. RCON is a real BSN program, and I have worked very hard getting this degree. I will have my BSN, I will sit for the NCLEX, and I will be a "real" RN. I wish you all the best in your endeavors at your "real" BSN school. However, you may want to work on your grammar if you are to have any hope of getting out of nursing school, much less getting your master's.

University of Florida only requires you to be a graduate from a nationally accredited program. Regional accreditation is not required. This is for their BSN-DNP program. Same for Florida State University BSN-DNP program. Nova Southeastern doesn't require it for their MSN program, but they do require regional accreditation for their DNP program. UCF appears to be the only school who requires you to have regional accreditation for their MSN and DNP.
